Left hand coming off club in back swing (left handed)

When I get close to the top of my backswing my thumb pad part of my left hand begins to seperate from my right hand when I try to keep a flat right wrist. My grip is neutral to slightly strong I believe. I am curious if there is something obvious I could be doing wrong to cause this and what kind of issues this could be causing in my swing (my swing is very inconsistent).

I get the same thing, but in my case it is becuse of an old hand injury which did not heal correctly and doesn't allow me to fully cock back my right wrist (your left), which prevents me from having the correct angle at the top with my right forearm...
I have learned to overcome it by having a strong right hand grip...

One thing I have found is that the flat left (right :)) wrist position at the top is easier to achieve with a neutral left hand grip, combined with a slightly strong right hand grip...
You could probably achieve the same with both hands neutral...
maybe you left hand has crept up on top of the grip a little at address, and if you have a strong right hand grip you will find it harder to get the flat right hand at the top...

OMG Notmez...you read my mind! I am doing this as well "Big Time" as I was thinking of posting this myself. I too am a lefty and I think I have been doin this I started learning a flat right wrist(left for you righties) about a year ago. My buddy was saying that it's my lack of flexibiltiy in that wrist (*shrug*). However, I have just been trying to keep the left hand on the club longer and longer in the swing through repetition. It's coming along. I was a severe CUPPER of the lead wrist and the added benefit of the Flat lead wrist is that it has shortened up my swing. Good Luck Notmez.

Conk, Notmez
Sometimes it helps if you totally relax your lead (right to you) thumb at address (to the extent of even slightly lifting it off the top of the shaft) and keep it relaxed throughout the backswing, even when your wrists are cocking...and get that left wrist cocked right back!.....

And the higher your left elbow points at the top the harder it will be to keep the left palm/thumbpad on the right thumb...

Thanks Putt...grip pressure is something else I struggle with. I tend to give it the ol "Death Grip" which makes my problem worse. I will work on what you said. :)

To find how firm (??) you need to hold the club, make a few practice swings with a three finger overlap grip, in other words with only the left index finger and thumb on the shaft...You get a totally different feeling of how the club feels/releases/how its weight feels throughout the swing....if you do it right your hands feel totally passive...
