Lesson prep

I also forgot to mention that I talked my wife into taping the lesson (if Brian will allow it).

You're taking your wife to a golf lesson that involves a 4.5 hour trip? I know its late, but that sounds like a prescription for disaster. If I took my wife out to Rochester or Long Island, after 3-4.5 hours of "the speed limit is 65 not 85, where is the next rest stop, why do you have to go so far just for a golf lesson, how much is this costing," and the dreaded "does this mean you have to buy more golf clubs"...... I would not be in a mood to listen to anything. :D

I know this has been discussed before but I am not a big believer in bringing a list of questions to a lesson.

That is another way of trying to fit his information with your information.

The questions that you may ask, should come from his information, that day, based on what he sees you are actually doing - not what you think you are doing.

You are going to see a highly trained and experienced artist - give him a blank canvas!

If I had a chance to speak with God I would bring questions on a piece of paper for sure!

If your like me you may get to work with Brian once maybe twice a year. He is a very good authority on the golf swing obviously, so why would you leave out the chance to clarify your thoughts on the swing. You may have misconceptions of the swing that could influence his ability to get the message across.

Every time I work with Brian I bring a list of questions we cover before He watches me. If he is good (which he is) that will not influence him at all. He is mentally strong and confident, and nothing you do is going to change the direction he will give you.

Oh and by the way, he has told me many times that he loves the question and answer session because he gains an understanding of where I am.

Brian to God, not the best comparison.

Good for you, Lindsey. I am sure Brian can't wait for your next question and answer session.

Hope your meeting with God goes well, too.

It's not a comparison. The point- if I was going to meet an expert and I only had a short period of time, I would be sure get the most info I could. Sorry I had a different viewpoint.

I believe that would be a comparison of experts. Why the reference to God? Why not some other expert say like, VJSINGER. lol... That's just my viewpoint.:)

So I took the lesson after Lindsey (who, by the way, can really knock the snot out of the ball, just in case you are wondering) and wondered myself prior to the lesson about whether or not to bring my 50 questions. I decided to just go for my top 5 questions.

Brian loves answering questions. He is not fazed. He loves it.

I never got to my top 5 questions, as they were irrelevant after 20 minutes. After 20 minutes with Trackman and Brian, I had 50 new questions because they had proven that what I thought I was doing wasn't close to what I was actually doing. Feel can be so far from real it's scary.

I told Brian that I had a great game with the driver, fairway woods, hybrids and putter and a truly horrible game with wedges/short wedges. Trackman proved it as my first test at 50 yards (in the mud) established me as a 36-handicapper at 50-yards.

What were your Trackman numbers, niblick?

Brian could give you the details, but he quickly had me "rolllng the bowling ball underhanded over the second arrow on the lane and hooking the bowling ball into the pocket" and was hitting a really nice little high draws. Immediately.

When I thought I was close to zeroing out I was still swinging 4 degrees left (not quite as bad as at Lake Presidential last year when I was 6 degrees outside-in with a 6-iron and hitting moonballs). When I thought i was swinging a mid-iron way, way right, I was consistently 2-4 degrees inside out, with a face roughly half that number (with occasional toe shot misses), following a simple backswing adjustment. I learned my feel is currently about 4-6 degrees from real. He helped me adjust my idea of feel much closer to real.

My wedges sucked because I was way inside and swinging right, underplane, and not nearly open enough with my set-up. Thin and fat city. And consistent with my last 3-4 rounds in which I drove the ball and hit greens off tees and putted really well and ruined each round with 4-5 shots inside 80 yards.

Well, I had my 3 hours with Brian. If you can convince anyone to video the lesson I HIGHLY recommend it. You can't remember everything even if you make notes immediately after. I've already watched many parts several times. I'll go into more detail later regarding my lessons but I have to thank my wife because she really didn't want to do it.

Oh yeah, I didn't bring or ask any "before" questions. Exactly like niblick1, "they were irrelevant after 20 minutes."
