lia41985's Swing

Given the spatial confines I have, these are the best angles I could get of me swinging a 7 iron. The recording equipment is decidedly low-grade compared to what's out there. I recorded these using my built-in camera on my Macbook Pro and Quicktime.

Here they are:
<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/AQn5G-qEV-g?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/AQn5G-qEV-g?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/zWf8H_KX2Qw?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/zWf8H_KX2Qw?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

Some background: I'm 6'2" and 180 pound with a thin build. I consider myself to be pretty athletic. I'm a decent basketball player and a good tennis player. My arms are pretty long--I don't know what my wingspan is but my wrist to floor is 33 inches. In terms of glaring physical weaknesses, I suffer from very poor hip flexibility (I can't even come close to sitting Indian style and my college yoga instructor told me that I have the tightest hips she's ever seen--and she's worked with octogenarians!) and tight hamstrings. My core is definitely not as strong as I'd like it to be. My hands are pretty large: 8 3/4 inches long with my longest finger measuring 3 1/2 inches--I definitely need bigger grips (2 wraps of tape or size gold in Ping clubs). I wear a size 12 (I don't know how this could be relevant but the fact that SteveT has asked reminded me to mention it). I grip the club in what I feel is a comfortable position: my hands are neutral, gripping the club at the same position my arms hang. My signature is an exact reflection of how I think about swinging a club. I play about 10 rounds (usually just 9 holes) a year, almost exclusively in the summer--for 9 I can shoot anywhere from even par to bogey golf depending on my short game that day (I don't really practice it), my willingness to grind, and how much I've worked on my swing at the range (which is something I love to do). I love hitting the driver. I hate hitting fairway woods off the deck. My bad shots are thin. My divots are shallow. I tend to hit my driver and metals off a tee very straight or otherwise with a slight pull or pull draw. My long and midirons are straight. My short irons I pull. My tee-to-green game really gets going when I'm just playing for a fade out of an open stance (which I'm doing in these) and "holding off" my finish (which I didn't do in these), and in that case, most of my shots from the long to the short clubs go from being straight to straight fades. I try to swing the club at what I believe is 90% of my maximum swing speed capacity. I carry my driver 260 yards and my 7 iron 165 yards. Technically I want to work on improving the sit and tilt components of my swing (axis tilt on the downswing). I tend to stand too narrow and maybe even too close to the ball with my mid-irons through wedges. I also would like to implement a better "trigger" to start my swing--at times I don't step enough on the right foot to get the weight off my left foot. I don't know if you can notice it, but my friends always comment on how "long" my swing is. I really have no interest in changing that--all the reasons I've been given haven't really satisfied me but I'm more than open to hearing further suggestion on this or any other point.

Try and post a swing where you actually hit a ball and of better viewing quality. Your right your swing is really long, not that it matters, since your not actually striking a ball.

Video cameras don't cost thousands like they used to to film slow motion sport.A Casio FC150 is well under $200 these days. There really is no excuse not to have one especially playing an expensive sport like golf.If you can afford to play golf, you can afford to spend under $200 on a camera.

Like footwedge says, your practice swing is very often different to the one that strikes the ball so there really is no point analysing a practice swing.Camera angles need to be better also.

As for the Sadlowski length backswing,99.99% are going to be wildly inconsistent but you might be the 0.001%.

Would love to, but I'm in cold Cleveland and I don't have a video camera.

I feel your pain. Here in Sandusky it is not exactly balmy. The guys are right about the video camera. Borrow one and go to a golf store. Practice swings are not authentic. BTW where in Cleveland are you?

Just a note, new FC150's on the web lowest price is about $233; the FH100 is about $223.

If under $200 let me know where.

Since there isnt any football in Cleveland this weekend get over to the dome and hit some shots and post up some strikes.

I have been reading posts by lia41985 for a while now. Knowledgeable guy, posts good video clips, etc. In other words my impression was student of the game, avid golfer.

When lia41985 says that he only plays 9 rounds a year, and they are mostly only 9 holes per round, I am, frankly, amazed that he is this into golf, but basically doesn't really play much.

No response necessary, just an observation.

Now $189.99 BIN. Alright I hadn't considered Ebay...not sure how much of that stuff is stolen/graymarket etc.

One of the great things about Ebay is the feedback system. You can read the sellers feedback history and get a good idea about their reputation.I always do my homework on the sellers and have had no problems buying from Ebay.I would never buy from someone with little or no feedback.

A little more looking at it...that Ebay auction is for an opened box item. That store sells new unopened FC150's for $229 (1 left).

Personally I want to get a new Casio for lower than they are currently selling for, like when entry models would be under $200, so your bombshell that they had reached that point excited me...briefly. I'm done.

I went to a nearby GolfTEC today where to my surprise an old friend was now working! He's going to try and get me in one of the bays getting recorded from down-the-line and face-on using their 60 frames per second camera. As soon as I get the footage, I'll post it.

My Casio FH-25 arrived today. I need to get some better light in my garage before I post any swing videos. The fluorescents give the whole thing a psychedelic feel. lol. I have been having fun this evening taking high speed videos of random stuff.
