Lia, how tall are you dude? Do those clubs fit you? Sorry if I'm way off, you just seem very tall.

Edit: Sorry I just read your first post. But still, do your clubs fit you?

Lia,

You have a great attitude and thought process, which goes a long ways in the effort to succeed. No! it's not a joke I'm serious. I must be off the meds.

counterfall,

Please don't apologize. I found your words to be really instructive and thought provoking. I really enjoyed a thread SteveT started around here about golf and tennis and I think that tennis has a lot of biomechanics concepts that carry over to golf. The article you linked to was written by John Yandell. I used to be very active at his forum under the name "lukman41985." The phenomena you're talking about with Federer, the whole marlin bit, brings to mind the imagery of a bow and arrow. Storing up potential energy and releasing it all kinetically.

So today: it seems that I've been unintentionally venturing left on "The Matrix" and my pattern is starting to transform into much more of a "Never Hook Again" type pattern, away from the "blender" pattern ("Soft Draw" backswing, "Never Hook Again" down and through swings). Something about getting the club "out in front of me" with "the carry" has me taking it away "more out in front of me"--it makes sense but I didn't plan it that way. I'm hitting it very well right now. My swing feels very effortless and dynamic--my body and club just whipping along. Christopher Clarey, the now sadly deceased but incredibly evocative American sports writer, once referred to Federer's forehand as "a great liquid whip." That's how I try to imagine swinging and what I see in John Daly, Bubba Watson, Rickie Fowler, and Vijay Singh. Anyways, here's the latest: <iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/xUoEX_EmYvI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

I can't wait to get on a Flightscope or Trackman, almost purely out of some morbid curiosity at this point to see my Vertical Swing Plane numbers, which I'm sure are quite steep--pictures 7 through 16 in this slideshow seem to indicate quite a steep plane that my club appears to be working directly on: https://picasaweb.google.com/Lukman...&authkey=Gv1sRgCN-opYK1qNLgOA&feat=directlink

Of course, I do want all of my numbers so that I can hopefully get progressing forward with my swing more quickly. Anyone know of a good spot in Atlanta to get on a Flightscope or Trackman? Thanks in advance. I'd also appreciate any additional feedback. Bouncing these ideas around with y'all has been a great experience and really helpful. Thanks!

Lia i was going over some of my swing videos last night and noticed something i do that doesn't look right when compared to pros. I see the same thing in your swing!
If you watch both of our backs and our head they kinda go up and back away from the ball. Im not sure if its just something as simple as we are losing out spine angle or if its something else.. Anyways here's a video of my swing. Put your mouse arrow on both of our heads and watch them in the downswing. Hopefully someone can chime in with a fix!!

pokerlife,
Thanks for your input! So long as the club is doing what it needs to be doing I'm not concerned with head or any other body movement necessarily, save for those moves that could very well lead to injury. However, to know what my club is doing I need to get on Trackman or Flightscope. So my question stands: anyone know where I can get on one of those machines in or around the Atlanta area? Please let me know. Thanks.

It's a fit in move. In lia's video his hands are way in on his setup but they come out a lot at impact, if he doesn't stand up he will bury the club in the ground. It's actually quite common among amateur players but not amongst pros because of inconsistencies. To steep is one of the main culprits.

I know I will take flack on this, but I find it sort of amazing that you, on the one hand are so seemingly educated on every technicality of the golf swing, and are obviously highly technically literate, but you don't think to go to the Trackman website, and click the locator function. Granted, it's truly an example or programmer stupidity (Not user Friendly). They would rather have you click through the world map and zoom in, than offer up a basic search function, or even a table sorted by country. If you go there, you will find 3 locations in the Atlanta area. Nice, wish I had one up here in TN. I don't think Trackman will help at all. Instruction would help, but as you have said you only play 9 times a year and then only 9 holes at a time, so paying for lessons might not make sense.

Somebody asked you if your clubs fit you. Looks to me like they do not. If you look at your address position DTL, your arms are hanging way inside your chinline. Sure looks like you are leaning down to fit your stance to the club. I think you said you are trying to model your swing after John Daly. Why? In order to swing like Daly, you really need to have Daly's phenomenal coordination and balance. Pretty much nobody can swing like him. My other thought is that if you are trying to improve your swing in order to actually play 18 holes of golf with lower scores, then why are you going full tilt at a 7 iron or the Driver for that matter? That's never going to be consistent. You would be much better off working toward swings like we see every day in PGA events.

Off my soapbox. Ducking for cover!

Steve,
Thanks for the tip on club fitting. Hit a 1.5" over standard length and 4* upright lie angle Ping G15 7 iron. Daly's my model because I have a naturally long, upright swing. Thanks also for the Trackman tip. I just didn't think to do that. Here's

Lia, unless that video was shot from your basement I think it would be just as convenient and more beneficial to get to a driving range so you can see ball flight. You know so much about the swing that you could probably do a decent job diagnosing your swing based on ball flight alone. If you could get out and play a round or two, even better. After all, you're going to need a short game as well. JMHO as a fellow beginner who found this way of practicing to be far superior to smashing balls into a net in my garage.
