Lifting torso up towards the end of backswing - any drill ideas?

Dear all

I'm a 7 handicapper who is currently tryiing to improve my ballstriking and hopefully in turn distance with my irons.

I have a very frustrating flaw in my swing that for the life of me I can't get rid of.

Towards the 3/4 mark of my backswing, I start to lift my torso up instead of turning, it means my last 1/4 of my swing looks like my right side is reaching for the sky and its a slight reverse pivot (although in reality it isn't)

My bad shot is a 'flip' or 'pull' with the odd fat shot. Basically I think the backswing problem has a knock on effect on my downsing.

Apologies, I don't have a video as yet but will do by Monday of next week.

I had an instructor who helped identify the issue but has since gone awol over the Xmas period and I'm currently looking for a new coach.

We had started work with the leaderboard on this issue and he had me focusing on my hip turn and getting a 'pressure' feeling in my right 'butt cheek' at the end of the backswing. However, this doesn't appear to have helped and in fact I'm straightening my right leg too much now. Thus at this moment I'm kinda in the dark as to what sort of drills I could do to stop this 'lifting'.

Until I find a new coach I feel my practice sessions are counter productive as I'm trying things without really knowing if they are doing me good or bad?

Any thoughts would be gratefully received.

I don't know how much help this will be, but problems like these are sometimes effects of other things. When you raise up, you might be "pre planning" for your flip, giving yourself room to do so. Sometimes it's hard to fix certain things before you address what might be the real problem, such as learning how to sustain the stress in the shaft. If you don't raise up, and still flip, you'll hit it fat. So you''ll stop doing it and be back where you started.

That's a fair point, when I really purposely stay down on the shot in , I invariably hit it fat.
 
Brian does something like this. He said he worked on getting rid of it many-a-time and hit it WORSE.

I think the idea is that it's just something he did naturally....this is the way his body is built and the way it works........and to eliminate it would simply be FORCED. (or it may take some serious chiropractic work and/or- cybernetic cyborg-type alterations to his current body AKA Universal Soldier) Golf swings shouldn't be forced.

Anyhoo....I think it may or may not be something you need to worry about.

Most people that i see raise up is due to a lack of flexibility and they think they can turn further behind the ball than they really can. This makes them raise up a bit and causes inconsistency.
 
Another thing to bear in mind is that the last 20% of the backswing is generally performed with the shoulder blades, not torso turning..
You can usually only turn about 70-80% before your left shoulder starts to turn your head away from the ball. This pressure can cause you to "lift-up" off the ball at the top..
Try and focus on completing your turn as far as it will go without turning your head, THEN use the sliding of your shoulder blades (left blade pulls AWAY from backbone, and right Blade presses/slides in TOWARDS backbone) to complete the final 20* or so...

Well...

In my Matrix "True Center" pattern, I personally have less lift than with any pattern.

The dif?

Slightly STEEPER shoulder turn.

Try it.

Just make you left shoulder work more UNDER than around.
