impressive, hope he never plays behind me. Serious note Im almost the same specs built wise, would never be able to get close to that. Man that shaft is snapping back and thru. Kudos to him. Thats gotta be a rush in front of those people.

That is the best looking golf swing I have seen for any of those long drive guys. That is incredible how much speed he generates.

Wonder how far he would hit it using persimmon driver and balata balls? (that's if you are really talking "history"..:))...........

Well... Clubhead speed is clubhead speed and a biomech guy informed me that he has been 3D'd by a high powered machine and his readings are OFF THE CHARTS.......:)

He is not the longest hitter in the history. Well, taking into acount his weight, proportionally, he might be, indeed. But I personally preferred Dobbyn's swing as it was closer to my taste (not that it was free of mistakes).

Cheers

Some guys can run the 100 under 10 seconds... most can't.

This guy is wired for speed. I'd bet you he can beat most guys in a foot race too.

Sincerely,

cmartingolf,
I agree with your sentiment that this guy probably is genetically gifted with plenty of fast twitch (especially IIb) fibers. I would love to see the the strength, power, mobility, and plyometric programs these guys (must) use. I'd be very interested in hearing what Jamie's body fat percentage is as well--he must be 8 or under to have that much power at that weight.

....

you are referring to whether or not he would be able to make good contact with that swing and old equipment right?

Yup, persimmon drivers were relatively tiny in the old days.....and even the first metal woods were small....much more precision and thought required...

If you think he's cranking it 415 while NOT hitting the sweetspot, you're crazy.

And how is more thought required to hit a persimmon driver?

Here is a good one of Jamie - he can crank the gyroscope.

sweet spots on wood clubs are smaller. sweet spots on new clubs are bigger. he would have to tone it down a little to hit the sweet spot as often with a wood club. but, in long drive you also get multiple chances to miss so who knows. im surprised this thread has gone so long before anyone mentioned that he has a bent left arm at impact, kind of like lee westwood.

Good eyes. I think Westwood does it because he lowers his center and needs to fit the club in. This kid is so steep and narrow he almost has to or he could dig down to China.

MPH... Speeding ticket

So what IS his average clubhead speed?....

Here's ballpark.

He hit it 415. Ball flew about 390. I think the math suggests 2.35 yards per mile. So.... 390/2.35 = 165 mph plus or minus. Ball speed would be well over 200 mph on centered hits.

I'm sure some techy dude will give specifics, but that's pretty close.

Ouch.

long drive numbers are also inflated by the altitude.
