Looking for advice on driver swing

At the risk of showing my shortcomings as an instructor, I would find it difficult to try to help without getting some hands on teaching.

Thanks Kevin. I don't know whether thats a good thing or a bad thing, though. Maybe I can volunteer to be an Owl test case or something.

Another way to examine your swing. Look at 0:17. The shaft of the club is very steep. If you are this steep at this point the only way to make contact with the ball is to come out of your spine tilt (i.e. stand up). It may be a chicken and egg think, but you may want to try to focus on a less steep down swing. The handle of the shaft at 0:17 is pointing "way" inside the ball.

Really like the backswing... Would guess the Manzella Academy instructors would at least like that aspect.

I'm just a "player" but it looks to me like in Your transition & early downswing you are just fighting to lay the club off. With a great backswing like that, I would guess that if you found a different way to get it laid off, a lot of the "stand up" look might just go away. Maybe I'm seeing that because, personally, I have work hard to get it laid off earlier.

Kevin Shields said (hopefully I get this right) "you want to be shallow early and steep late.... You want the hands going up & in while the clubhead is still going down and out to impact." That's pure gold if you ask me and I CAN NOT do this if I don't get it laid off properly & early enough. Tough part for me is if I try to cheat this by changing my backswing I screw the whole thing up even worse.

Not sure if any of that applies here but I figured I'd throw it out anyway.

Had just a terrible range session yesterday, two way misses - right to right and left to left. I've never posted my swing before and maybe I should wait until the Owl is up and running, but someone has to see something here. I can't describe it, but in trying not to tug, I think I'm making a weird transition move, which throws off my timing. A lot of toe hits. Historically, I have swung too far to the right, but when I try to swing left, I think I don't maintain the face angle and wind up taking out the third base coach. In any event, any thoughts are welcome, I've got a few months before the season starts. Thanks for any thoughts.

ps, irons were a small draw, but livable

Obviously the input of a qualified instructor would be best.

But this is a forum. Post a swing and you'll get an opinion or three. It's just chitchat.

I don't think anyone should be telling you that your backswing is great or anything like what it should be.

And I don't think anything more than your video is needed to make that point!

It is a false looking turn in the backswing - possibly related to what you mentioned you were trying to do with your right leg.

Shouldn't be a core strength issue, I'm fairly fit for a 48yo desk jockey. This swing was just a normal driver swing.

Thanks for the thoughts, I fully understood that posting my swing for all to comment on could lead to a lot of varied ideas. I have no problem with that. You guys know how it can be so frustrating when you're hitting it poorly. Figured I had nothing to lose by posting it up.

Kevin is correct—the problem is not enough turn going back in the thigh/rib cage area, which then makes you right side bend early on the downswing to keep approaching the ball from the inside.

Easy fix.

Turn the mid-section early going back, add a bit coming down and you AND Art will be happy!

You guys are THE best in golf instruction, no doubt about it.

Thanks Brian! When you coming out to MJ's place to "give me the business"?

You could have a very strong core, BUT, when a golfer's legs are proportionally stronger than the core, swings tend to look similar to this one (early extension). Follow Brian's Rx for you and you will, without a doubt, be using your legs more for balance and to support your golf swing rather than trying to use them as a primary power source to no avail.
