Losing spine angle on downswing

Guys, i've been hitting the ball really solid of late but still not maintaining my spine angle into the downswing (i'm 'standing up' about halfway down). I've tried swinging right, left and everywhere in between but haven't been able to rid myself of this problem.

Pros seem to maintain the same spine angle from setup all the way through the stroke but i don't seem to be able to even with practice swings.

Could this be a flexibility issue or something else?

Thanks Brian, and some front on video

Firstly thanks Brian for the great video and the time you give to everyone on this site.

I should have probably posted a front on video to get the complete picture so here's one with a 7iron http://members.iinet.net.au/~jds072/070604 7i FO.avi

From this i'm not sure what category you'd put it under whether it is the first case of not getting the hips left enough.

I've definately been trying to get the hips and lower body more left but this seems to be the leftest that i can get them, hence the question about flexibility etc. I definately feel the weight over the left heel. Perhaps opening up the left foot more at address may help.

Thoughts?

Cheers

Brian....

So, I guess maintaining the spine angle for the longer clubs all comes down to the proper tilt for that club at address....and using release that makes room for the club to come through to impact?????

This is so much easier for me to do with shorter clubs. Do I use the same set up procedure as in your set up article for longer clubs (to get the right bend)????

ALso...I think a light just went off as the cause of the pulls I've been fighting. CIRCLE DELIVERY PATH! If not timed correctly, wouldn't this cause pulls???

No Sound....

I tried viewing this, and also downloaded the file, but can't get a single sound.Anyone else had this problem? Thanks, Ed

Thanks Brian

Hey Brian, once again you were right and thanks for your video answer. I wasn't getting the hands far enough ahead at impact causing me to stand up slightly at the bottom.

Below is a 'before' shot on the left and an 'after' on the right.

With my hands that far forward i could maintain the same spine angle i set at address

Thanks again!

awesome vid brian. This is something I've been struggling with (circle delivery path and losing posture). Any drills to help a straight line delivery path?

sorry, that second shot there is too perfect! I don't believe it, is it a setup?

how do you get from the frame on the left to the frame on the right? that's a huge difference.

skeptic, not cynic

Real deal

I don't believe it, is it a setup?

Not a setup, it is a real swing with the same club (7 iron) after reviewing Brian's video and the videos of my own swing a couple of days later

In the one on the left you'll notice that my hands are slightly ahead of the ball at impact but with maybe a slight flip at the bottom. half way down i've already started losing the shaft angle.

In the one on the right i concentrated on getting my hands as far forward as possible by -

1. Shortening my backswing slightly (which allowed more of a straight line delivery of my hands as per Brian's observation about circle delivery vs straight line)

2. Dropping my hands along the shortest possible line to where i want them at impact while keeping my right hip back (i personally have a habit of my right hip moving 'out' towards the ball sometimes which makes my hands 'go around' the hip and loses the shaft angle at half way down)

The next challenge will be ingraining this and taking it to the course!

:)

After really working on this at the range today I was hitting a bunch of cuts. Contact was solid, but everything drifted right. What are some things that I need to focus on to eliminate the cut?

Core not rotating fully towards the target? Hips outracing my hands? Maybe some OTT? I know, hard to diagnose w/out some video.

They don't put PICTURES on the scorecard.

I can make almost anyone, get in almost ANY position on video.

So what?

My job is to get you to HIT IT BETTER and shoot lower scores.

When I make practice swings my swing looks so much better......it's a whole different ballgame when I actually have to control the club tho.....

New
for the snap/sweep video , the path used to be this (without the spaces):

homepage.mac. com /brianmanzella /.Movies/sweepsnap.mov

However, due to changes in Apple's virtual drives, a lot of access is going away, more and more so. I would hope Brian might post some old ones up from time to time.

I know I have seen this video. The video is of two of Lindsay Gahm's swings, JUST from the top through impact.
