Manzella: Hardest working man in golf...and as good as advertised

I haven't had a golf lesson in, I'll bet almost 3 years. Ive obviously kept up with the information but in reality, with my workload, my swing has had more than its share of patchwork. I went into the season really not having any expectations regarding ballstriking. My off season was a total commitment to putting and wedgeplay as I had some specific tournament goals.

I ran into Manzella at the Masters and he gave me a 2 minute lesson on certain arm tourques and how things were being measured thru the ball. That tip alone allowed me to quiet some of my worst tendencies, upgrade some others, and keep my head above water. I went on a great run for the nest 2 months and played great.

Recently, a resurgence in putting and decent ballstriking allowed me to go on another mini run that included a runner up in the PA Open and I qualified for next year's PNC (Pebble Beach, anyone? ekennedy?) But my swing bandaids were clearly wearing off as I had to go back to what my friend Lindsey Newman would call a "slappy cut". I couldnt challenge the right side of any hole in fear of an over cut and I lost a little distance. Ekennedy and I were hitting balls at the State Open and its not classy to be in contention in the tournament and tell a fellow competitior how shitty your swing feels. Its like "Im so good I can play well even with my C game". I hate that but like I said my wedges, chipping, putting and golf smarts were keeping me in the game.

Anyhow, I was entering the final leg of my season (starting with a Nationwide Tour event) really having no idea what was in store with my ballstriking. A pathetic phone call to Brian resulted in the greatest one day turnaround in my entire life. Ive never had a "magic bullet" because my tendencies are so ingrained. Most fixes for me have a band aid type feel because its only a matter of time before my faults over run the fix.

But he gave me some stuff he learned recently that TOTALLY eliminated any feel of anything bad. The Magic Bullet!! It takes alot to get me excited. But this is something I know i can do and repeat. Havent been this excited in years to hit it.

Point is, Brian is the hardest working man in golf and is as good as advertised. Nobody, and I mean nobody, has every answer to every golfers problems. But if this guy keeps working and learning at this rate, he'll have the highest batting average out there.

Thanks to BManz, I'll be buying him a dish of his favorite food when he's in Pittsburgh in September.

Very Nice. It is funny but as much as someone can know themselves about the swing it almost takes an objective eye to see some stuff.
And what is this nonsense about "golf smarts"?

BManz in the 'Burgh in September?? Just watching you in the Mylan Classic or doing some lessons here as well?/ Inquiring minds want to know!

Come on guys, ever hear of the patients bill of rights? Whatever medicine he got was probably meant for him. Popping swing pills willy nilly isn't a good idea.:)

Brian's one of those deals that has to be seen to be believed. Problem is he's learning at too fast a clip, my May fix feels out of date already.:)

Thanks for the replies. I will play for a bit and when Brian comes to Pittsburgh (for lessons dcg) maybe he can do a video explanation.

Congrats to both you and Brian. I'm sure it is very assuring for both of you to have confirmation that you are doing the right things. I have been to many other golf sites and have never seen people that are universally helped as much as the people here on Brian's site. I myself have also benefited exponentially from being a part of this forum and I am very excited for the things to come. Congrats Kevin and thanks Brian for so much wonderful information!

Pretty scary. A guy who knows as much as the BManz is still leasrning things new every week. It just goes to show what your average Joe Pro knows. SFA.

Hey Kevin, you seem to be playing some real good golf this summer, I am curious how much you are able to practice? I know being "tournament ready" requires quite a bit of time.

My "practice regimen" really isnt that intricate. Something has to give, so unfortunately, I havent had a good, solid putting practice in a month so I kinda find whatever im gonna use on the putting green the morning of the tournament. I do, however, hit pitches and full wedges just about every day and those feels kinda creep into my full swing so I'll hit 30 balls before or after lessons. The biggest difference this year compared to others, no question, is that I committed to playing a full round of golf every week that wasnt a tournament round. In years past I would never play a round in between tournaments. That has made a big difference. For instance, Damon, Phil and I played a round at Pikewood National the week before our State Open and I still had a feel for golf when i teed it up in the event.

He's not the only one....

On the note of the how good a good instructor can be:

I've had the pleasure of working with Mr. Shields--- and quite a few other instructors, some well known on the internet-- and Kevin is really, really a few cuts above. I've learned so much more and my game-- particularly within 100 yards-- is now 10 strokes better. Plummeting handicap... I suspect that speaks well for both Kevin, and perhaps as well, for Brian.

re: BManz
Pittsburgh in September.
I'd love to know how to be there....
