1. how important is lining up staight?

does it matter if you aim a little to the right or a little to the left, or should you aspire to aim perfectly parallel left of the target line?

2. is it the opinion of the manzella academy that 'flipping' is acceptable as long as the clubhead does not pass the hands prior to impact, and as long as the shaft is still leaning forward at impact?

if so, how many people need to learn or practice COAFF type drills?

spose thats more of a whole subject that needs adressing rather than just the question :D

That #2 is a pretty good one.

Q:

How much/when to worry about not leaning the shaft too much forward and how much to alter equipment and golf swing and generally not worry about it........?

Lots of pros taking big divots out there, yes? (Lee Trevino probably being the King Of Forward Lean)

(formerly The King Of Mash.............when Mashing the ball was something we worried about)

How to strike a balance is the question, I guess.

And Trevino also played from a very open plane line....hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm ;)

i haven't yet attended the live show, but i definitely would if there was a discussion about how and why trevino hit it so good. also if there is anything useful in his instruction book.

New
Setup

I have several of the Manzella videos. It would be nice to see Brian's views on address position and a good balanced setup routine. I have tried several so I know it can vary between instructors. I also suspect it is pattern dependent but are there any fundamentals that are necessary to a good setup position. Walt

I hit balls pretty straight now but i'm still not certain if i'm flipping. It definitely feels different then before i have watched the flipper video. What is the feel during impact and after impact, how can you make sure that you are not flipping anymore? It seems like There is almost no way I can hit straight with wedding ring up i always end up hitting a low hook if i have wedding ring up. I know you talk about this, that your wrist will bend certain way to go along with the plane line, but I just want to make sure i'm not flipping anymore. By the way it has never been easier to hit a flop shot after watching the flipper video, i can hit flop shot all day long now don't know why.

and could you possibly tell us your tour dates so i can plan my vacation without missing your lesson?LOL. thanks

I would love an entire session one day devoted to Hogan. What grip did he use? His right elbow at the top of the backswing. His seemingly laid off position and cupped left wrist at the top. His first move from the top.

No No No No No No No :)

There's already way too much Hogan Fanboyness on the innernets.

In better players, what common swing issues create difficulty obtaining solid ball-turf contact?

Yes, this includes me :)

It seems like you never talk about using extensor action (can't think of an un-golfing-machine-like way to describe it) in a golf swing. I'd like to know why this is and to what kind of person with what kind of golf swing would you teach extensor action.

Brian,

Your 2008 take on the perfect pivot as it relates to the centre of gravity. There a lot of confusion about the pivot and if the centre of gravity moves or doesn't move. It has the golf instruction industry split (s&t, ballard, gary edwin, ben doyle, TPI etc.. - all different) and I've heard a lot of conflicting evidence from credible sources both for and against. Interested in your insight into the topic since your last perfect pivot article and if your found any new research into the topic.
