This camera absolutely does frame by frame. In playback mode, once the video is playing, you press the joystick to pause it, move the joystick to the right to frame advance, or to the left to frame reverse. Also, once you paused, you can zoom in on the image, which is also a nice little feature.

Thanks.

I actually just bought the camera few days ago, and my frame-by-frame playback function doesn't work perfectly. For example, once I pause the video and nudge the joystick to the right to move one frame forward, it actually moves a few frames back. I wonder if anyone else are having similar problems.

Yeah mine does that too...it's a bit annoying, but you get used to it. I normally try to pause a bit past where I want to see and then when I frame advance hopefully I am close to where I wanted to start from. Good camera, but that gives them something to fix for the next version.

Yea, quite annoying especially when you pause in the middle of the downswing and try to play frame-by-frame from there because going a few frames back is a lot due to the speed of the golf swing.

Another thing is the high shutter speed setting turns out a bit purple during playback.

Whoa Nellie....

It is a $600 dollar camera.

The FORWARD frame advance doe snot jump back hardly at all. The BACKWARD frame advance does, but if you get used to it, it can actually speed up the process.

The picture is great on a computer, and already compressed for editing.

Surely, this form factor is the future of camcorders and one day, for about $1200, Sony or Panasonic will make one just as small that will jump every hoop you could want.

Right now, for the price, and the SIZE, and the picture, this is the very best.

Just got the camera, love it!

Ordered it when Brian was here, also got a wide angle lens --- great quality integrates well with the computer

Nice formats

Brian,

Do you use the Movie Factory software that comes with the camcorder to transfer clips from the unfriendly .mp4 format to .mov?

What settings do you use to get the maximum quality using as little space as possible?

Thanks.

Frames/sec

For anyone wondering about the specs and review of the still camera aspects there is plenty of info, and then about 7/8 of the way down the page one finds movie information.

This review says the max frame rate is 1/2000sec. I thought you guys mentioned it was capable of 1/10000 sec. We purchased the new Sanyo VPC-HD1000. Unfortunately the highest frame rate was 1/1000. The setup, top, and finish of a golf swing is amazing but anything in between was a blur.

It needs to be above 2000 to be clear, correct? Thanks

I am holding out for this baby as well. But, probably the greatest advantage that we give up is portability compared to the HD 1000! That's huge for a bunch of folks.

And it will come in at $999.00. That, I don't mind paying if it produces like it says it will. As the frames per second increases, I think the quality of the video may decrease, or rather viewing it at a larger scale may prove to be too grainy.

New
swing analysis software

Just about to buy myself a HD1000. Anyone know if any of the swing analysis software handles these increases in fps or HD ?

i believe the HD1000 is supposed to offer 1/10,000 sec shutter speed in video mode - http://www.sanyodigital.com/specifications.aspx?v=17 - but the printed specs on the sanyo site might be in error ... do you still have the HD1000?
