McIlroy's Pattern?

It is very similar to the Tiger Butch Pattern except modified to hit push draw as the "stock shot."

Jim,

Please set me straight if I'm off here (which I probably am), but wasn't the Tiger Butch pattern a little more toward across the line, while Rory seems to take it more around, and flatter "through the right shoulder," so to speak?

Also, when I watch clips of those swings in slo-mo, I feel like I see more body rotation from Rory, with hips more open, etc.

If those statements are anywhere close to accurate, is it significant that that Rory has these differing traits, and why??

Nice to see guys like Rory and Day at the top of the leader board. Great swings, full turns, shifting of weight and they really swing thru with abandon.

Looks like the bottom arc/HSP/Swing direction is at 0* with the path about +3*. Does a good job with keeping the rate of closure pretty slow. I would imagine his numbers probably look like:

0* swing direction
+1.5* face
+3* path

Uses the ground extremely well. Some of the swing reminds me of when Tiger was first working with Haney, except it's a better grip and he doesn't swing nearly as much out to the right...nor is he worrying about keeping parallel to imaginary swing plane. He also uses a punch elbow versus a pitch elbow.

Look i didn't say it was a carbon copy, i said similar. They have similar backswings going close to what homer called the turned shoulder plane and both used the elbow plane on the downswing. As Kevin mentioned there are differences and one notably is a steeper shoulder turn among others.

Just like mentioned in the Sergio thread, and numerous others about tumble. This is the ideal position from which to tumble. Vertical left arm, and clubface just tipping toward the ball. From there... Boom, Pow, Smash! From the camera position you really can't deduce exactly where the clubhead is in relation to his hands. The camera looks to be outside of where his body and hands are located, which would make the club look more inside. Not that any of that would matter anyways. This is where he gets the club to the other side, like Brian talks about in the Underplane video. I really didn't get tumble at all for the longest time. But thanks to reading, and re-reading, and multiple viewings of that Underplane video I think I've got a reasonable understanding. Mostly thanks to posts from Kevin Shields, Lindsey Newman, and lia41985 who we haven't heard much of lately, but who's past posts inspired me to post this. Kevin, in no uncertain terms, told me I had no idea what I was talking about, forcing me to go back and look harder. Mostly I just wanted to be able to understand what I was reading on this forum. There's some VERY interesting stuff around this place.

Hi Lindsey. I just paused that swing (posted in this thread) at 21 seconds. Don't see much tumble. His clubhead looks inside the hands DTL view on the downswing THROUGHOUT. Educate me :)

Don't think in terms of his or a parallel alignment for starters, he is tumbling on a path, possibly, a little to the right of his body alignment One can tumble on any path. Most importantly look at his right hand, he is not working under that's fo sho.
