Have always played my hands more forward but moving towards the mid body hands setup. It really changes the feel of the initial part of the backswing. It is more one piece, as opposed to an earlyish type set. Not sure exactly what my question is but was hopng to open a discussion on the merits of mid body hands and any insgiht others have found in moving to this setup.

Mid-body hands takes the drastic inside move away that everyone likes to do these days which will then tend to make them swing a bit too far to the right.

Plus other things but in general but that's a start.

How do you have mid body hands if you tee up for your woods inside your left heel? Does that mean the hands are behind the ball at address?...

If you look at pics of Tiger you will see his hands are behind the ball at address.

Actually, this is a common trait you will see if you attend a tour event.

Yup.

Imagine that.

I didn't mean it like that Brian...

I was meaning a LONG way behind the ball?....

And what stance width is this based on, ideally?....There can only be one position where you can position the ball off your left heel AND have your hands mid body AND the the hands the ideal distance behind the ball without unduly increasing the loft at address...

Or does mid body not actually mean "the middle of the body" but is a broad term?...

Actually it delofts the face as the clubhead sits closed to the target but what's it matter anyway because we're talking setup here not impact.

??? So you address the ball with the clubface not even aligned square to the target?....

I`m trying this at home and I cant get my left wrist straight unless my hands are forward, Now mid body is at your belly button right and my hand is cupped.
Shouldnt it be straight at the start, like impact position???

Nope.

If you take your grip with flat level and vertical left wrist in the position it will be at impact... that is the real grip that the ball will experience if you make a relatively uncompensated swing...

The stating position ( eg. Mid-body hands) has to be very different... bent left wrist/ right wrist mild bend-or-flat... because the hands have moved away from the target.

WHen the hands move to mid-body position and the left wrist bends... the left wrist can remain vertical ( in which case the hosel rotates around the sweetspot giving a closed clubface) OR the left wrist rotates away from vertical and the score lines on the clubface stay square to target.... my interpretation of what i have learnt so far... so correct if needed

It does not matter because impact is an incidental moment during natural dynamic swing and all these initial positions/alignments will be taken care of by mother nature....
