mid body hands

My coach growing up was George Knudson. He was a big proponent of mid-body hands, but he didn't use that expression. I struggled as a freshman in College and went to see a "TGM-Style" instructor that had success with a bunch of guys in his region. He was a Jr. College Coach and helped a lot of players. When he saw me with my mid-body hands, he said, "can't play from there...." and since I was struggling, I listened to his sermon about the shaft and left arm in-line at address.... The best "player" on my college team was a student of his and was doing rather well. George passed away that year, so going back to him for advice wasn't possible. I floundered worse with that setup and if it wasn't for a little chipping a putting, I might have lost my scholarship.

I guess this isn't helping anyone out there, but it got me thinking of mid-body hands vs forward hands.... I still can't believe the comment from that teacher when he saw me hitting balls... I would never say that to a student. I might THINK it, but I would explain why I was changing what I was changing and hope that sound reasoning would win. I'm a passionate teacher and student of the game. It's a shame a so called "teacher" would ever make a comment based on his "style" preference rather than the dynamics of impact.

Mid-Body Hands

MID BODY means MID BODY!

The butt of the club at the belt buckle—or close.

If you make NO compensations—and you can mentally/visually "handle" the look, the CLUBFACE would be CLOSED.

Most good players CAN'T STAND to look at a closed clubface, so they "twist it" open toward SQUARE or even a bit OPEN.

That's cool.

Mid-Body Hands makes a REAL "MANZELLA-STYLE" Right Forearm Takeaway easier to do.

I think I basically understand what Mid-body hands is, but if someone [ like Brian or Jim ] would give a specific definition of what it is, that would be great.

OK, bear with me here...
In order to get the clubface angle correct, is the following a reasonable procedure?:

Address the ball with your normal grip with hands forward towards the impact position and clubface square to target line (grip pointing at left hipbone)....
Then move the hands back to mid body, which closes the clubface...
Then rotate clubface open with forearms WITHOUT REGRIPPING THE CLUB until the clubface looks more pleasingly square.....so at this address setup the grip looks vert strong and the right hand looks a bit under the shaft...

Would that work?...

I finally got Mid - Body hands

Got 18 in this morning before the weather went back to January. Mid Body hands has always been one of those, I'd like to be able to do things because I thought it would make a lot of things easier to accomplish.... no luck. Every time I messed with it it was short right and yuck. Today was having a crappy day hitting the ball, so decided lets just scrap it and find something to get it to the house. Brian likes mid body hands, lets give it another try. Well the mid body hands turned into mid body hands with lagging clubhead takeaway, which turned into me hitting the ball like the boys on TV for the last 5 holes. I finally at least feel like I've got a jumping off point that I can build a game off of. The games been 70-85 the last 2 years, but it's been all smoke and mirrors, new beginning starting with mid body hands.

Generally speaking, at impact fix, your clubface would be slightly open.

Setup with whole body at impact fix with the clubhead "hovering" the ball and the clubface in the proper position for the intended hinge action you are going to try and employ. You should have a flat left wrist and a bent right wrist and your body in it's impact fix condition.

Now, move your body back to "standard address" keeping your hands in their impact fix condition. Now all i want you to do is to move your HANDS to the middle of your body. To do that you will have to BEND the left wrist and FLATTEN the right wrist. The more you BEND the left wrist the more you will CLOSE IT.

So thus it will appear closed at address, because well it is.

Guys Guys Guys....

why not just post a picture? Doesn't a picture speak a thousand words?

And if I'm not right why not someone who DOES get this mid body hands idea post a picture of themselves setting up.
