Motorcycling the Grip

How does one avoid misaligning the clubface or adding torque to the club when adding the right hand to the grip? I think this is the chief cause of my recent hook problems with a closed face (besides also coming too much in-out, although that could be connected to the grip as well). When I take the right hand grip, I generally don't pay attention to the face. When I setup to the shot however, the face is square. Through impact though, the face is closed, despite sensing it as "square".

How can I avoid the right hand from putting this hidden "torque" on the club and closing down the face in my shots? Is this a common problem?

I was re-gripping the club and didn't even know it, be careful you're not doing the same. Check your face and wrist conditoins after the swing to make sure they are still square.

Seems we're in the same boat, hooks and too much in-out. I'm still trying to find my paddle.

Checked the affect of making sure my right hand doesn't disturb the clubface angle at address. The result? Much smoother swings and consistent strikes. NO snap hooks :D

Of course there is the bad news.

Average path with driver: 10 degrees in-out

Average path with six iron: 12 degrees in-out (remarkably consistent too)

I am able to control the face enough to make sure the ball lands somewhere just right or left of target, but because of the severe path, distance is really suffering. 230 yard drivers... yuck. 160 yard 6 irons... yuck..

Time for the towel drill!
