Your old dad has a rather decent swing for his body type. The swing is filled with compensating moves, like a 1/2 backswing, straightening out his stance in the downswing thus creating a steeep plane, and even keeping his left elbow bent which shows up on the face-on video that is available after viewing your posted side view videos. I love the way he 'goes normal' Sadlowski-like!
What may be causing his sore back during a round of golf is: (a) riding a golf cart which is punishing on the spine as it bounces around the course together with long waits to play, and/or (b) his protruding tummy which he successfully slings around in the downswing as he properly clears his hips before impact. This alone must put tremendous strain on his back, which he attempts to mitigate by going erect in the downswing. He knows what he needs to do to play golf with his aged body.
Of course, if he has a sedentary lifestyle off the golf course, that could be the cause of his sore lower(?) back, which is a common ailment amongst seniors. Losing weight would take the stress off his spine and hip/knee joints too... and then his more athletic golfswing form would emerge. Your dad is a real soldier!
(Shhhh... son! Don't show any more of my swing videos.. birly-shirly will go bananas..)
