My first day on the range with TGM

Oh boy...Not very good. I think I had 100 thoughts in my head.
1.I cannot figure out the backswing and keep the flying wedge.
I don't think my right wedge starts off very good. My wrist isn't bent hardly at all, but my grip seems to be proper. I am pretty much lost when it comes to taking it back.

2. I tried the shoulder to the aiming point and PP#3 to the aiming point. I topped almost every shot. If I do hit the ball it feels like a punch shot. I can't seem to get my right arm to go straight, but seems to come more in, somewhat across the ball.

One thing that was successful is I have had the chipping yips and I concentrated on keeping my right wrist bent through impact and wow. 180 turnaround. Now if I can just get the swing figured out.

I can play in the upper 70's with my regular swing, but it all depends on timing because I flip my wrist at impact. So I know TGM is the way I need to go to get the flat left wrist and bent right.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You need to work on punch shots only and stop your follow through and monitor the flat left wrist. You should be able to keep it flat on the backswing, at impact, and after the release before it begins to bend back.

Get yourself a tac-tic to monitor it or just look at your wrist after the release and if it was bent it was bent at impact

Joe,

(1) Mr. Kelley suggested you start at your head or your feet and work your way through the 24 components one by one. Learn one, own one and move on to the next one. Repeat until finished.

(2) The suggested curriculum to learn your correct TGM alignments and work them into your swing in Chapter 12, the Basic Motion Curriculum (pages 225 - 228). You start slow and small with a chipping motion, work your way to a small pitching motion, then to an easy full swing. Each step along the way, you are monitoring a component.

While not difficult to learn, this is a precision system and you need to methodically work your way through it. The best way, of course, is to get a good TGM Authorized Instructor. There are many fine instructors, but Brian, Yoda (Holenone) and Chuck Evans are at the pinnacle, in my opinion.

Line three balls up in a row, 90degrees to the target line a few inches apart.

Hit the middle ball.

See where the divot is.

It should be in front of the 'line' of the other two balls.

If it is, make sure the ball is no further back than the middle and your head is no further FORWARD than the middle of your stance.

Report back here for further instructions.

Three Essencials and Three Imparatives... Focus on those before getting too detailed.

In combination with 2-0 I suggest 9-0 for the most ideal "beginning" points. Finding out which one of the Zones is the most troublesome for you can help you diagnose what specific issues you can work on... then never forget the advice of 5-0 and 3-B as you go through your practice.

I say this because of your very first sentence. Too many thoughts are going to kill the process of getting better.

Thanks guys.

I always hit the ball first and take a deep divot. They start out straight and curve left, especially with the short irons. I tend to pull those a lot.
I always have the feeling of "gator" arms at impact. I don't think I chicken wing though. If I try to extend down the line i hit it thin usually. Not pretty.
I am going to tape myself this weekend when I play so i can see what I am really doing.

When hitting chips and pitches, do i fan the the right arm from the start leaving the elbow nearly in place? or do I keep the "v" in my right hand running parrallel to the target line as long as I can and let right arm extensor take over?

I tried hitting shorts with the right arm only and I hit the ground first a lot and hit the usual skull as I did in chipping, but it did hit some solid. Just about 20 yrds or so.

I will start working on just short chip shots first.

As for 12-5. I don't have the book here at work today, but I belive there is a column labeled Des. and has letters in the column. I have not been able to figure out what they mean. Anyone know?

Thanks for your input.

PS. Is there anyway I can put the video up of my swing without a server?
