My trackman data - too much height, not enough spin

Here's my understanding/interpretation of Brian's advice.

Drill 1: Using 5-iron, hit low power, full swings to 140 yards. Try to hit ball as low as possible whilst i) retaining normal finish and ii) not taking much of a divot. Increase incrementally by 5-6 yards until you reach full speed.

Drill 2: Initiate downswing with the thought of hitting it fat but save it by a forward lean. Don't save it by going normal.

Drill 3: Put dowel in ground with desired (or perhaps exaggerated) forward lean. Get hands and body into position whilst holding he embedded dowel. Take hands off dowel. Take swing (without club) and figure out what you have to do to get body/hands back into that correct position.

Swingthought: Get right shoulder forward. This not the same as getting the right shoulder down (which can be achieved by too much right side bend). Right shoulder forward is also not same as left shoulder away from ball.

Take home message best summed up in this exchange after first drill was explained (i.e. Try to hit ball as low as possible):

Geoff: One of the contributing factors will surely be my ability get my hands in front of the ball at impact?
Brian: [Laugh...giggle..giggle]....Geoff…it’s the only way. [Laugh...giggle..giggle]

:)

If it was just that simple, eh?

Yes, thanks for sharing.

I know when I try to get my ball flight down, I tend to slide forward and nothing good comes from that.

I like drills 1 and 2 without the slide forward. Without hitting an actual ball, drill 3 is real simple--things seem to change a lot for me when there's a ball to hit though.

Let us know how these work for you.

FWIW right shoulder forward (not down) works for me pretty well. It's a feeling I happened along after working on right arm only swings like Brian suggested. And it brought me back to my lesson with Brian where we worked on a "total motion" kind of thing...swinging to a finish position he put me in - right shoulder higher and more around/completed/fully turned.
