Need help

Hello forum members,

I need some help. I have really struggled with my game for the last 3-5 yrs because of 1 or 2 snap hooks during a round. The fear of this shot causes me to also hit a few shots way to the right during the round. I am a great iron player but the driver is killing me and I am really getting frustrated. I finally recorded one of the hooks on video and wanted to hear everyones thoughts. I think i should raise my let arm dramatically at the top of the swing and get my elbows more level which will cause a steeper downswing. Brian, and others any help is greatly appreciated.

Had the same problem. A forum member suggested to keep the left shoulder moving away from ball thru impact. Sometimes I image the shoulders switching spots from address position to follow thru position. Easy went from 4 handicap to 1 in a week. Give it a try as I too had same kind of problem where the body kind of got stuck using Soft Draw (or even fade) guidelines. Again follow thru was my key to keep positions correct and let me know if it works (or doesn't).

Getting the elbows level would be a good idea. Brian showed a good drill for this during the video chat on Tuesday.
In your address position, choke down on the club enough so that you can put the left side of the grip against the right side of your body (just above the right hip or so). In order to make a backswing, you will have to let the right elbow "fly" a bit.

Getting the elbows level would be a good idea.

I agree, your right elbow is way too low during the backswing and your clubface is very shut at the top - hook-ville. Work on a more rotated shoulder turn and adopt Soft Draw back swing. Your downswing plane is not that bad but the face is so closed to the path it has no choice but to dive left. Purchase soft draw and work on it - it will help :)

Strong swing! Hit 100 drivers off the ground.

I bet you hit your 3-wood pretty well. Just because your ball is on a tee with the Driver, doesn't mean you should get under the ball.

If you strike your irons well, you are desending and not as shallow.

bump for brian, jim, or others with ideas and or drills. Thanks in advance and to everyone who has offered ideas so far.

Quite simply, you are swinging too far to the right.

Hear is a drill I often use with folks with the same problem.

Pick a flag or sign that is about 100 yards away to aim at.

Make the ball start left of it, and try to curve it around it.

You can aim as far left as you wish.

Once you can do it, make yourself hit one left of it and DON'T try to curve it.

cmartingolf's idea will work as well.

DON'T CAHNGE ANYTHING ELSE YET!!!

Thanks for everyones time and ideas. Brian, as someone who constantly fights the duck hook do you think it would be trouble if I raised my left arm plane like you talk about in never hook again. I am trying to become a better driver of the ball over the winter and to get rid of the occasional snap hook. Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time and a great site.
