These look very good!

And very familiar too! :) I was just watching Over and Out this week, so am glad to hear another version of it in the lob/flop video.

It's too bad the pga website design doesn't make it easy to bookmark these, but...I have snatched up the .flv files. :D

Great videos

Great stuff, Brian.

Can you get them to correct the following error in the Flop / lob video "For lob shot contact ... flatten the forward wrist sooner" This occurs at the end in the bullet points and voice over.

Good stuff Brian!

They should definitely correct the errors at the end of the video on the flop / lob shot. Especially the "swing along the target line" point. Didn't you specifically say that people should NOT do that but should swing along their stance line?

Lol.

I see everyone but the B-man. Where is he?

Not an intuitive user interface. You have to scroll down and discover the various videos then scroll horizontally back and forth to find Brian's videos.

Great videos Brian, as usual!

One quick question...is it possible to make the blue plane board that you use in all your instruction? What are the dimensions and angles of the planes? I would love to make one for myself. Or is it something that one could pick up at a rehabilitation supply store. Thanks

Wow, this is one thing that has baffled me for awhile. I'm very good out of bunkers and good with pitches and flops, but I've never been the greatest chipper in the world and it ticks me off to no end when I feel I used the wrong club. Can't wait to try this tomorrow, too bad they just aerated the greens.

Used the Rule of 12 today in a round and it worked fantastic, even on newly aerified greens. You just need to figure out the 'safe zone' a bit which can move around a bit depending on certain ways the green slopes, etc. Fantastic stuff. Can't wait to try this out on non-aerified greens.

GGSJPC,

My understanding is that the SW would be your 11-iron. It will give you one part roll for one part carry, the PW will give you two parts roll for one part carry, the 9-iron will give you three parts roll for one part carry, and so on.

It's a great way to chip, as it really simplifies decision-making and club selection.

I was reading elsewhere that the 11 is the SW. I would think the best idea if you get at 11 would be to assess the situation. If it's uphill a bit, take the longer club (Gap Wedge). If you want to keep the ball short of the cup, then take the shorter club (SW). Getting my chips and pitches to start rolling on the green quickly is something I've been trying to accomplish, but I could never figure out the right club. I think with the Rule of 12 I've got something.

The KEY of using Rule 11 or 12 is to learn to hit a chip shot with a little brush, not too "trapped" or too "scooped."

That's something I forgot to mention as well in my experience using it. If you trap it, the ball goes too low and usually doesn't reach the safe zone. If you scoop it, it can go pass the safe zone and/or not get enough roll. I was practicing it yesterday on non-aerated greens and it was working beautifully. I started keeping a lot of stats on my game and last month I was hitting 66% of my GIR, but my scramble % was at 45%. I'll give it a month and see how well my scramble % improves now being able to utilize the Rule of 12.

Brian...great stuff!

Love the "throw the guy who is uh a little tired off of your back"!! "The guy is invading your space"! A little different spin on the fella that I have heard you speak of in the past!!:);)

Take care,

Steve

Found a neat little sidebar to the Rule of 12.

You can use it to get a good idea of the speed of the greens. If you go to the practice green and find a relatively flat service and execute the chip shot properly, if the ball goes way short and you need to use extra club, then you know the greens are slow. If the opposite happens, then you're playing on some faster greens. I found this out as one of my home courses just aerated the greens and I needed about 2 more clubs than the Rule of 12 suggest. On the other home course with greens in good shape, the Rule of 12 works perfectly.

Suppose you like flying it more than having it roll...will the Rule of 12 work? Or does it require using the shortest safe spot? With Brian's first example, he had two yards carry and 12 yards roll and the right choice was 6I. Suppose a person had a preferred safe zone for that shot at 7yards carry, would a -1 (SW?) be correct then?
