Brian, should the putter hit the ball on the upswing or downswing?

Always on the downswing!

From Chuck Evans:

With putting the stroke is so short that hitting downward actually creates overspin keeping the ball on the surface, Hitting upward creates backspin and makes the ball hop, and on center contact creates no spin but skid.

See 2-C-4 for more information.

Yep, I believe Goosen used one, perhaps he still does I don't know. The grooves get the ball 'rolling' very nicely, and much easier than a traditional putter. I've used one and still do at times. They are especially helpful on bumpy greens. The only drawback I have 'potentially' found in my own game is that I have a bit more trouble with distance control with it. That very well may just be in my head though.

I've tried one of those. Better than an average putter a little bit, but C-Grooves are better still IMO.

Great article Brian I think Dave Pelz could do with a read of it because he teaches the easy to sell to the general public straight back anstraight through steering method!

Keep teaching the truth!

Does the shaft make a difference with the TGM method of putting. I'm thinking about getting a new 2ball putter. Is there a big difference between the center or heel shafted versions when it comes to TGM? Thanks

PS I've got a Pelz putting track put I'm going to try the 2x4 tonight.

Putter height

Why aren't putters faces made thicker so that the head doesn't have to be lifted during the stroke or raised at address?

Very interesting point Brian....never thought about the face height issue.
