New Release - Luke Donald

Is this swing evidence of the new release? It seems like Luke's RIGHT wrist arches post impact and his LEFT wrist simultaneously cups (see 13-15 seconds). It also looks like at the top his righ wrist cups after being arched.

Luke Donald measurements on 3D -

Right Wrist 55 degrees bent at last parallel

Right Wrist 18 degrees bent at impact

Right Wrist 0 degrees bent when the hands reach the left leg after impact

Thank you Mike. He looks like the closest example that I could think of.

Is it safe to say that Tommy Two Gloves wouldn't a good example post-impact?

Ogilvy is the first player I think of when I think of the new release. It must be a feel thing, but I am trying to follow some of his moves.

I agree. For me, the right wrist is crucial and is the key piece I'm focusing on. I've always seen the right wrist do something post impact that I couldn't put my finger on. I looked at Mike's explosive golf school video again tonight and have a much better understanding of the coupling point concept. The one concept I can't quite grasp is the "cast" at the top??? I feel like I swing the club a lot faster if I keep the head behind my hands and (not intentionally) hold the delay. I understand that if I cast I might be able to reduce the attack angle and handle dragging, not sure how much distance is lost. Need to get a lesson first.

Take a look at Gainey at 23 seconds. He looks as if he straightened that right wrist, so I would assume his left wrist is bending.

Neither Brian or Mike are advocating a cast - they are teaching a 'feel' of tossing the club outwards from the top which, if done right, will result in a good amount of lag. If you already get good lag into your downswing you may be doing some of this good stuff already, so trying for more may well give you an actual cast.

Edit - just saw this. Clarifies the toss better than I could ever hope to:

Brian's new video was very helpful concerning the toss at the transition. It happens so quickly that I can see why there's potential for confusion that the move is a cast. The tangential move (I think that's what he caused it) is clearly different for me. I go down, not away.

Good point. It seems like he's much, much later with the left wrist bend than Luke Donald or Freddy. I feel that Gainey is handle dragger and has developed a TGM like swinging based upon aiming point principles. It's like he tries to push the club into the ground and focuses on a point on the target side of the ball. (Not critizing, just stating my observations).

Not to mention the body positions that go into support of the through motion!

Another good example.

Another thing that Michael discusses in his video is the slightly bent left arm, especially at the top of the backswing. Looking at these swings shows that that pretty well too. It seems like this would allow slack at the top and help the first move away instead of down.
