So I was at the range yesterday for my second session trying out the SD pattern. Love it. I grew up reading Nicklaus' The Full Swing for weird reasons that aren't worth going into. Despite being a scrawny 120-pound, 5'7" kid, I hit the snot out of the ball back then. After a few years off and now a few years of trying all sorts of rotary nonsense, I literally feel like a kid again.
So after my session I see some bridgestone guys doing their ball-matching thing with a launch monitor. I've never been on a monitor, so I act like I care about Bridgestone products. I hit a few pro-v1s with my driver and put out 111mph, but a LA of 17 and a BS of 4800
Got about 239 of carry on avg with a 2-5 yard cut.
So my driver shaft is a reg, obviously not the right club. I grab one an 8.5 bridgestone driver with a stiff flex, and my three best swings with it still averaged out to a LA of 15 and BS of 3600. Trajectories were slightly higher than the first swings, 244 of carry and slightly more of a cut, say 10-15 yards on avg.
According to the monitors, and the way it felt, they were slight push-cuts, not over the tops like I've been hitting for two years. Which lines up with what I was hitting during the session as well.
Talking to the guy running the monitor after, turns out we played junior golf together. He's a pro now, and he basically says, nevermind the ball-matching crap, you're square at the top and you're not flipping, so start there and you'll work it out.
Given the sd pattern I'm working with and that feedback, what are some feels I should be working on? I love dropping the hands and catching with my pivot. I notice also that the more I drive my hips on the DS, the farther and squarer I hit the ball. To the point where i was hitting 170 yard 7-irons yesterday feeling like I was hitting the ball with my right hip. Is creating more of an angle going to flatten out that LA? I've definitely spent too long spinning instead of shifting.
Anyway, that's quite a ramble for a noob, thanks Brian for the videos. They're like i said, I feel like a kid again thanks to you.
