Sadlowski is just a freak of nature.

Don't agree...I've seen lots of long drivers who are by no means big...and women who can crack it out 320-340 who are built like rakes....and one guy who hit it 350 in bare feet...

It's technique......look at Woosie, he was one of the longest (on tour) in his day...

I didn't say you can't be a long hitter for your size.

How many guys under 180lbs do you know that have WON the world long drive title?

I was just saying he wasn't a freak....and winning isn't everything...they are all long....

For what it's worth

Back in the 80's Nick Price WAS built like a safety, is he built like Ed Reed, NO, but in the 80's yeah I think he could pass for a safety. Does size matter when it comes to mashing a golf ball??, nah, athletic ability, dynamicism, and correct impact alignments per TRACKMAN really help though of ...check out Sads.

I was an instructor trainee for David Leadbetter at Lake Nona in Orlando back in 1993-94. I got to spend a lot of time watching David and Nick Price working together. I would peg Nick to have been around 185 lbs. and he was roughly my height 6’1”. While there, I came across some very old video of Nick in the early 80’s, prior to his win in the World Series. He was downright skinny. By the early 90’s his body developed into a very athletic build - small waist, broad shoulders, big strong hands etc. He is definitely a more “fast twitch” guy than Faldo.

Incidentally, David spent many a lesson (and probably still is) trying to help Price get into a more open, orthodox, impact position and develop a more flowing, rhythmic swing motion. I got to see many great players come through Lake Nona in those days. Hands down, Price struck the ball more solidly than anyone.

I don't mean freak literally but the guy cranks out 150+ mph clubhead speeds at 5' 11" and 175 lbs.....i mean thats pretty unbelievable.....he's smaller than the average tour pro.

Technique will only get you so far...then it comes down to genetics.

Nick still has too much leftward hip slide?

Faldo is certainly a big guy that I couldn't get over how much of a cream puff his shots were. Don't get me wrong, extremely accurate and I would die for his distance control with a wedge and of course his putting was phenomenal. I'm 6'4" tall, so Tiger doesn't seem all that tall to me, but he is jacked to the gills. Bill Glasson was the guy that surprised me with how built he was. He also hit it a ton back in the day.

I wonder how much of that falls back to Ledbetter's teachings? Hasn't Wie also lost her big advantage, distance, since moving to DL?

Hmm,
Faldo, Wie, and Price, let's see what do they have in common? Oh yeah, DL!
While they all may very well be good ball strikers, they certainly don't have very dynamic swings. Very mechanical in nature. Don't know about Faldo or Price pre Lead, but Wie certainly had a much more dynamic action at age 13 than now and she was longer too.

Faldo had a dynamic swing pre Leadbetter, but it was inconsistent. He had won numerous tournaments in Europe and come close in the Open, but felt that his swing was unreliable under the ultimate pressure and so went to Leadbetter with the intention of developing a swing that would increase his chances of winning majors. Like it or not - they succeeded.

Whilst I'm on the subject of European major winners I recently watched (on YouTube) the final round of the 1991 Masters which Woosnam won. Being 1/2" taller than Woosnam I would welcome an explanation as to why Woosnam's swing was so effective and what you all think I (we) can learn from it.

I think its tough to be too critical given the success Faldo and Price had but it definitely imo was at the sacrifice of power. I think he has Els all screwed up.

The guy was built like a NFL Free Safety, and swung the club with a VIOLENT swish.

Power-puff, non-dynamic.

Just like the even bigger, stronger fellow Leadbetter alumni, Nicky Faldo.

Jeff Sluman BLEW it by both of them.

All 5' 7" 160 of him.

No led fan at all.....Nick it it miles by you and straight as a string. At his peak, circa 1994, he would have Tiger numbers with any putting.
