Nine iron 185 yards long

Why do pros hit their short irons so far? - and how do they hit a nine iron 140 yards AND 185 yards? I assume its all about swing speed - they can hit a nine iron 140 yards at 75% and can hit it 190 yards at 110%. I assume they do it to gain the height they want to stop the ball on the green. I assume that they are not "hooding" the club to hit that far - only increasing swing speed.

Jack Nicklaus, in his prime, with Brian Manzella as a eye witness, used a 6-iron from 160 yards as a standard distance for that club.

One of Jack's most famous shots was a 225 yard 6-iron, at Firestone CC.

So........Jack was just BREEZING it, on a normal shot. So was almost everyone else. Watch Sam Snead on ALL-STAR GOLF...BREEZING IT!

Nowadays...THEY HIT IT HARD.
That's it.

Oh yeah, the lofts are jacked and the ball is hot, too!!!!!

when a golfball is hit that hard, when it comes down is it like a spent bullet? will it hold a hard green better? (assuming it is hit from fairway)
