Besides the well known (and uber expensive Pebble Beach) - are there other good courses in the SF Bay area?

Any recommendations?

thanks!

Erik

If you go to the Monterey Peninsula, you should play Pacific Grove Muni. It is a great bargain, the back 9 was designed by Neville who designed Pebble Beach. Several of the holes on the back 9 are by the water. It is knows as the Poor Man's Pebble.

Bayonet is a course a few miles north of Pebble. It is a nice test, but it might be much pricier than when I used to play it.

Fred Couples course in San Juan Bautisa is a nice course(San Juan Oaks).

Pasatiempo in Santa Cruz is a great course and was designed by Alistair McKenzie, but the wallet definitely takes a hit.

The Bay Area is pretty big for being a small place. Whereabouts are you heading and how far are you willing to drive. Californians tend to drive a lot farther than others and not think about it much.

Thanks, guys!

I am not totally opposed to long distances. Any help would be appreciated. We'd be there for a few days and I (personally) would like to play some of the courses near Pebble Beach. But if there are others nearby (~1 hr drive, say) I am all ears!

I'll second the vote for Pasatiempo. Designed by McKenzie who designed Augusta, a great golf course. Harding Park in San Francisco is also a great course.

Silverado in Napa, Poppy Ridge in Livermore, Harding in SF, Poppy Hills, Quail Lodge (Ben Doyle's course) and Bayonet around Monterey, The Ranch in San Jose but only if you're accurate. Cinnabar in San Jose.

There are good courses all over. Where are you staying?

The Golf Course in a National Park = The Presidio Golf Club.
Arnold Palmer design. Can be cold and windy when the SF Fog rolls in. On a good day, however, it is exquisitely beautiful, and very green. Lots of elevation change on most holes. No water. Very reasonable.
