NY State Open Winner Swing

Hello Everyone,

I just came across these forums, and I am really enjoying them. Thank you so much to the people who provide them and contribute here. I've really been enjoying digging through the archives and reading everyone's analysis. A lot of smart people here on the boards who really love golf. I can't wait to start contributing.

I thought I'd post this golf swing of my mentor and friend Keith. Last year he won the NY State Open and the year before that he qualified for the PGA Championship. I have been obsessed with his swing ever since I first witnessed him play golf. I have not met anyone who is longer and straighter than this guy, and he seems to knock flags down at will. I use him as my swing model, so the more I can learn about his swing, the better. So I thought I'd ask everyone your opinions and analysis. I know he worked a LOT with Carl Welty.

Welcome to the site. Thank you for posting the swings but please keep in mind that Brian is the owner, operator of this site and advertising another pro or golf academy is innapropriate.

Here's a full speed....

Here's a full speed version. Didn't mean to advertise his teaching services, I just figured that he and Brian Manzella were in completely different areas so I didn't think there would be a conflict, sorry about that.

And FWIW, I know Keith worked a bit with Steve Stricker during his struggles and I can see a lot of similarities in the swing. Very wide going back and coming down. Very little wrist hinge. Compact backswing, and a very centrilized pivot. The biggest difference is that Keith plays a left to right ball and has ~125 mph clubhead speed with driver. Just bombs it. Steve Stricker, from what I've seen, plays right to left ball and does not have anywhere near the speed. But it is interesting to see similar dynamics at work. Keith is also probably 6'3 ~200 lbs and very strong.

Brian Manzella is global. He has certified instructors as far away as Australia - just one example.

I played with Keith and his soon-to-be father in law (another darn good player) in Albuquerque during a practice round at the Club Pro Championship in '09. He is a fine player and can flat hit it! He's a guy that could play for a living.
