Couple things:

1) Faldo was incorrect about Angel's "natural draw." Maybe he has one but 90% of the time he plays a big ole pull fade.

2) There is no such thing as "over spin" get it out of your head now.

3) Fades are easier to control for a few reasons: a. Under pressure most players will leak the face open causing a right shot anyway as you saw many times on Sunday. So if you are already a fade shot player it becomes easier to control. b. Fades launch higher and spin more all else being equal which limits the amount of "off line" for a missed shot than a draw/hook which launches lower with less spin and thus the curve is more exaggerated.

4) I would like to say that i really would have seen Kenny Perry win. He seems like a genuinely nice humble guy. I will say though i'm not sure if Kenny mis-judged his lie or had a bad swing on the 2nd shot @ #10. I think he might have just simply aimed wrong for his lie angle as it didn't appear to over draw it just simply at the center to slightly left center of the green and drew from there.

5) Angel didn't shank it; that's what they said on TV. He simply tried to play a big ole hook and had the face very open but swung very left. Sorry but you can't hit a shank THAT FAR.

6) Yes Zach Johnson won with a draw, there are always exceptions. However most of the time faders will do better under pressure.

Yup drawers get tight under pressure and can have a hard time releasing the club, both Campbell and Perry went right on there approach shots at 18 playoff hole, a double cross. If a fader gets tight under pressure and don't release the club they still hit it right but its not a double cross, margin of error is less.

I am not sure you can make the statement about drawers under pressure. Perry lost because he skulled a chip. He drove the ball beautifully under pressure. The fader Cabrera drove into the straw then hit a tree trunk and bounced into the fairway. Pure luck. Perry won 4 times in the last year - he can handle pressure. Rocco Mediate with half the talent took Tiger to the finish line playing his little hook. What about Arnold Palmer? Sam Snead?

Perry completely lost his swing during the last few holes (which sucked because I was pulling for him). I don't know if it was pressure or fatigue, but he definitely lost it tee to green. That chip was just the final nail in the coffin.

How about Mickelson's choke? He could of easily won the tournament if it wasn't for that horrible shot at 12 and then missed the short eagle putt at 15 and then missed the short birdie putt at 17. I told my wife at the start Phil was going to have a good day because he is the type of guy who likes to "show off" and he had nothing to lose being so far behind, plus he was paired with Tiger. He played awesome on the front nine and then he got in contention and the pressure got to him as well on the back nine. When Phil picked the hard nine at 12 I knew he was going in the water, that was one dumb club selection and a poor shot on top of it.

I was rooting for Perry to win but he definately lost his swing starting at 17. I am not saying a guy who plays a draw can't win tournaments but he better have his nerves in check.

Draw vs. Fade

Under pressure, the fade is easier to control the direction, but the draw is easier to control the contact.

I don't think it had anything to do with the outcome.

I will write a BLOG on this tournament soon.

Perry lost because he hit a lousy chip at 17. If he pars that and has a two stroke lead on 18, he wins. 18 is a tough hole for a draw shot. He will look to the 17th as causing his loss.

I have a feeling this is more of a personal thing than a general statement (draw is easier to control the contact). I may well be wrong. By contact I assume that means hitting the sweetspot.

Perry said in his post-loss on course interview that for his approach on 17...went long because he was a bit amped, and when he has troubles it's when his right hand comes more into play. Then on the 72nd he hit driver into a left fairway bunker, and his shot from the bunker went way left. So I think these are what he was describing.

Man, one par on one of those holes...he'd have a green jacket.

If.....

If Phil doesn't hit it in the water on 12 and makes the putts on 15 & 17 he wins at 13 under.

If Perry pars 17 or 18 he wins.

If Sergio liked the course, he wins.

If Tiger putts better, he wins.

It is what it is.........

Yup, Phil and Kenny were both close to winning. Tigers putting didn't let him down as much as his driving and Sergio, well Sergio is Sergio.
