Open stance with Short Irons

The past couple of rounds I've struggled a little with my short irons. Inconsistent with the 7 iron, decent with the 8 iron, struggled badly with the 9 & PW.

I've been re-reading Hogan's '5 Lessons' and also remembered the post Brian made on his Trackman findings (http://www.brianmanzella.com/forum/...rackman-research-findings-brian-manzella.html)

1. If you want to hit the ball straight, DO NOT aim straight on every shot, with every club in the bag. You have NO CHANCE.

You have to aim a decent amount left with short irons, and slightly less and less until you get to slightly closed with a Driver.

If you try to do it out of a square stance your head will explode.

So today I tried an open stance with my irons and hit them quite beautifully Just the trajectory I wanted and straight (although hitting it straight hasn't been an issue since I was 14 years old).

I'm just curious if anybody can explain why this is. Is it a pivot thing? Or a design of the shorter clubs?

It's a downward attack angle thing. The shorter the club, the more down is required, the more left you aim (if you want to trace a straight line with your stance )

Only the stance line moves left (open), the clubface keeps it's original orientation to the target line, correct? Thx.
