Over Pivot

Is there such a thing? Or is it merely pivoting incorrectly? Playing yesterday, I was swinging too far right and felt very blocked through the ball. Tried to swing the club more vertically, on the turning shoulder plane with an early hinge of the wrists and no conscious pivot. Contact was much better. Is this a path issue, or is the pivot moving the club under plane? I feel if I were able to swing on the turning shoulder plane with a perfect pivot ala Brian's article, I would have much more power. However when I think pivot, I go way under-plane and swing really inside out. Thin hits, pushes or duck hooks result. What do I work on first, proper pivot, or proper arm swing?

What happens is when people learn to pivot correctly, you end up with a whole lot of room to swing the club inside/out (esepecially when you learn axis tilt and an on plane right shoulder). So what people do is they see all that room and they just instinctly swing there and end up being below plane.

Even when using the eblow plane with the "perfect pivot" it almost feels slightly OTT when you are on plane because you have a lot of room to swing inside/out but you are not using all of it.

Hope that makes sense.

Jim--that makes a lot of sense. The Palmer video that Brian put up illustrates what you say BEAUTIFULLY. Thanks for the explanation!

Still confused, but I think I get it. The more you pivot, due to the space, the more you should "feel" ott. Thanks as always Jim.
