Pause at the top?

I was wondering if perhaps this topic came up at the anti-summit or elsewhere:

Are there significant advantages/disadvantages between (1) pausing at the top of the backswing and (2) using an "overlapping" or "blended" transition a la Hogan?

Thanks.

Charles barkley vs ben hogan

if your going to pause at the top, why bother with a backswing? If you can pause at the top I'd say it's probably not a very good backswing. It's like asking a pitcher to pause when his arm is at it's farthest point behind him.

I mean a swing where everything comes to a stop at the top before starting down.

Not like Barkley.

he didn't really stop just slower than hogan in transition ...you can't stop when you try to whip it.

the player that gives me that impression is,,,fred couples.

my older's swing also has a pause on the top. i think that is just her tempo, rhythm, not done by design or training.

Long ago, late 50's and early 60's, that was one of the things that was a swing
image that people copied. I really don't remember who the player(s) were, but I definitely
adopted the pause at the top move. I probably still do it to some extent.
