I just finished reading the perfect pivot series in the instruction forum. Very enlightening!! Can I assume these basics are equally applicable to hitting and swinging?
I sure wish I could hit some balls outside.

I did a quick search on that phrase and did not learn much so I wondered how it fit in.

A little back ground on me:
I had a TGM based lesson recently which touched on the flying wedges, the right forearm pickup, tracing the plane back to the ball with PP#3, swinging down out and through. Since I have been home I have not been able to play golf or hit balls due to the snow. So I am limited to practicing set up in the living room and taking some air swings in the small bare patch near the back door.
Up till now my practice swings seemed hit and miss. I am using a back swing where I focus more on turning my right palm a little up while using it to stretching my left arm. Then on the foreward swing I turn the back of my left toward the ball while keeping it taut.
( I might add this is what it feels like I am doing )
When I do this and use the thought of turning my right hip behind me while maintaining the same right leg angle from your article, I feel I can come at the imaginary ball on what feels like the correct path, from the inside. It also feels like I am getting more turn and coil.
I think my hips were too rigid and locked and caused me to come across too much and other problems.
Sorry about the long rambling post.
I guess my point is I am not sure what you meant by the shoulder turn takeaway??? By my description is that what I am doing?

Sorry for the delay in response Steve....welcome to the Manzella Forum!

Right Forearm Pickup is the Homer preferred takeaway method.

Shoulder Turn takeaway is the MOST employed, and something I use for golfers you need MORE pivot.

Is it still helping?

Brian's replies in quotes. My response below each quote.

Brian, No problem, I appreciate the reply and you have a great forum. It seems easier to understand.

"Right Forearm Pickup is the Homer preferred takeaway method."

I tried the RFP and am finding it difficult to hit with accuracy.

The weather here has not been good enough to do much, but I did manage to slog around Saturday. I tried the RFP and to be a hitter for the first 16 holes, but as I mentioned above I was spraying balls all over. The last 2 holes I feel I used more of the shoulder turn takeaway and a swingers swing using my pivot as my power source instead of my right arm and I hit the last two fairways and greens. It felt good and natural to me.

"Is it still helping?"

Yes I think so. Thanks
Steve

This is VERY important thread.

Right Forearm Takeaway as a concept is sound as it could be.

As a IDEA, introduced to a REAL student on the Lesson Tee...it hits about .300

The great players almost ALL used some form of the Shoulder Turn Takeaway.

I've been working on the right forearm pickup and like it, but you HAVE to maintain the extensor action or you will have problems. Jus tmy thought on it.
