Not sure of the structure of the PGA in the US but in UK it goes like this Training Assistant, Class A, Class AA, Advanced PGA, Fellow of PGA, Advanced Fellow of PGA and finally Master Professional.

Is there a similar structure in the US and how would a AI compare?

Class A Member not just handed out but earned

The PGA Setup in America goes as follows:

PGA Apprentices are individuals in the golf business who are seeking membership in the Professional Golfer's Association of America.

To obtain membership an apprentice must complete the Profesional Golf Management Program which includes the following:
Pass a Playing Ability Test
Completing extensive Self Study Work in three stages: Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3
You then must test on each Level of work before moving on to the next level.
You must also be employed at a golf facility or attending College at a PGA of America approved Universtiy conducting a Professional Golf Management Program that includes internships in the golf industry.

Once all this is completed you become a Class A Member of the Professional Golfer's Association of America. A class A member has a number following the A to signify their role in the industry for example an A-6 is a teaching professional or an A-1 is a head pro.

Class A members can then go on and become certified in an area of expertise such as Teaching or Managment. To do this they must complete extensive self study work and testing on the subject they intend to be certified in.

Certified Class A members are designated by two stars next to the PGA Logo.

Once a Class A member is certified they can then go on to become a Master Professional. Designated by Four Stars next to the PGA Logo....the highest level you can attain.

To become a Master Professional you must have been a class A member for eight years and complete a proficiency test on your chosen specialty and a project on which you present.

Also you can be an apprentice for up to 8 years but if you've not met requirements in 8 years you must start over.

The PGA really needs to work on the criteria required to become a Golf Professional. The teaching section is sad and the playing ability test is a joke.
