This is a simplification, of course - imagine you are the ball. You see a fulcrum point moving in 2-D, say on West-East axis; to release the kinetic chain under it the point must slow down and/or stall in this axis; now, thinking in 3-D reality, it does not matter for the ball if the fulcrum point stalls or changes the orientation and starts to move away from the ball (to the North) since its position on the W-E scale does not change.
