Phil needs to fly Brian in this time

The stats dont lie. fairways hit and GIRs are way down. Im not raggin on him but maybe he would have more wins and more majors if not for persistent swing issues. Just a thought.

Does he have the worst game of anyone who has won 37 times?

Like Palmer before him, the way he played the game that worked best for him. He actually has been a little unlucky in majors if you ask me.

You're bviously taking this too seriously. Anyone would obviously take his game any day. However, if nothing was wrong, he wouldnt be seeking out coaching, would he? This is jut a thread for swing pontificators to wonder why he cant control his long game. Doesnt mean he wont win the Masters next week. Lots of ways to get it done.

Sorry I struck a nerve.

I don't see how this game is the best that works for him. Seemed to me when he was playing his best he was finding more fairways and greens and bombing it less. And I agree with Kevin, if he thought everything was fine and dandy, why has he gone to Butch Harmon? Why did he seek out Dave Stockton?

You either want to improve or you don't. I think Butch has made improvements to his swing from what he had right before Butch. However, I think there are a lot of teachers who would greatly improve Phil and make him clearly better. Brian is one of these teachers.

Phil's head is not in the right place. His wife Amy underwent cancer surgery a few months ago. His mother is also ill. Maybe he would win more if he cared less about his family.....like Tiger.

Right. I believe A Kim was near the bottom in fairways hit this week.

My point which seems total misunderstood, people are picking apart his swing when honestly I don't think he cares if its on plane, off plane, hooks, cuts....if you could fix his wifes/moms cancer my money is you would fix what ills his game........nothing has changed in his swing from when he has won in the past.

Some gameplan.

I hate to say it, but you just don't have any need to find the fairway at Augusta anymore. As long as you have a swing and don't have something obstructing RIGHT in front of you, the bombers can just bomb away and whomever putts the best out of those bombers will likely win.

I think it's not as great of a course as it used to be.

I don't consider myself 'old school.' I actually like hitting modern drivers even if I play with vintage irons. But I saw a ton of awful shots and swings today and these golfers had zero issue with breaking par. Tiger looked like a train wreck out there. I don't think I can recall a #1 player in the world taking that many bad swings...swings so bad that a 20 handicapper can see that they were way off. And he still shot 69.

I'm not trying to take away from Phil's victory, but as far as the Masters goes...I don't understand what the committee is thinking with the way the course is set up. Call me crazy, but I don't think Bobby Jones would approve.

Yes.

He hit it all over the planet today. And had to hit almost miraculous shots to get it back.

Scary to think what he could do with some accuracy.

No one is going to hit it perfect, especially at 125mph, I know he got the hooks on a few of the middle holes but I thought he had complete control of his game today, tough crowd.

With all due respect, have you ever been to Augusta?

With all due respect, have you ever been to Augusta?

Yes. On 3 different occasions.

Don't get me wrong, the place is awesome. It's one of the few things I've encountered in my life that really live up to it's hype. The same way I feel about the first time I went to Vegas, the first time I went to Tokyo and the first time I saw Niagara Falls.

When I was a teenager, I think it was Lanny Wadkins who was doing some pre-tourney commentary and analysis of Augusta and one of the things he mentioned that really appealed to me about the course was Wadkins explaining that it's a course that can suit anybody. The bomber can take advantage of the fairways. The ballstriker can position the ball on the green for easier putts. And the good putter who may be short off the tee can get the advantage with the flatstick.

Now, that's completely gone from Augusta from my perspective. Zach Johnson won a few years ago, in record cold temperatures. I'm not asking for guys to split fairways every hole, but they were missing really badly and still had no problem shooting under par. They dynamic of it being 'anybody's course' is really long gone IMO.

Augusta has never had a premium (or even an emphasis) on straight driving. We have other majors that do that, Augusta has never been one of them. The concept of "rough" is relatively new there as well. I wish they would go back to "wall-to-wall" fairway, let them hit it as high and long as they can, and may the best putter win.

He put together his first ever final round in a major without a bogey - that's a hellofa round no matter the course, game plan, or era.

Loved his quote after the round, I think it summed him up to a T - "A great shot is only great if you pull it off, and a safe shot is not having the guts to go for the great shot."

I'm not asking for straight driving. I'm asking for penalizing off the grid shots. I generally am a fan for the US Open, but sometimes it can go overboard and guys aren't hitting drivers which isn't good either.

This is a MAJOR. It should be a tournament that doesn't favor a particular style of golfer, but the golfer who plays the best.

Hey, Phil said it himself. He loves Augusta, because he can miss and get away with it.

All I know is he put on an absolute clinic with his short game. Flop on 18 for par yesterday, up and downs from all over the place to save critical pars, and great putting.

Hell with swing plane, learn how to get up and down from anywhere:)
