Video with the words.....

The Video with the words sounds good....needs to be next YouTube.

The Right Leg IS active in this process, but the left "receives" more down, so it can supply more UP. If you can use 'em both, that would be ideal.

The left leg "RECEIVES" the weight because the golfer has moved to the right of the LEG TRIANGLE, but the right leg is one side of this triangle, and is THUSLY on an angle, so the weight FALLS back toward the center—BUT IN THE DIRECTION OF THE LEFT LEG!!!!

Great news of the video Brian

OK Brian, you have finally won. I have now deleted all my bookmarks for golf sites except yours...... Why? Well, many reasons but your explaination of the pivot is simply......well, great.

Thanks.

I'll keep an eye on youtube.

By the way, I never visited youtube until you started posting there. I hope you don't put up a myspace next because I don't want to have to explain that one to my wife.

Here is my attempt to explain how to perform a correct golf pivot in 100 words or less....

With your weight centered, use the left leg to help you push the weight OFF of that foot as you make a sharp turn of the right hip. FALL and SQUAT into your left leg. Using the ground, push UP off of that FOOT as your right hip moves TOWARD IT. Use this motion to get your left shoulder as FAR FROM THE BALL YOU CAN at impact. Keeping your hips left and your head back, let the motion of your arms PULL YOU to a FINISH with your right foot SPUN UP on the toe and your KNEES TOUCHING.

Pretty good, eh?

Wow! Brian as much content as you have in there, it sure sounds perfect. Can I just concentrate on moving my right shoulder downplane?

Ok, so I am now getting much closer to a better position on the backswing - away from my old tripod - and have been looking for a description of hip action and transition to go from there. I knew there needed to be a "squat" in the forward pivot but mine is limited and sort of weak, so I was wondering what I was doing wrong. I found this description by Brian of pivot through impact:

With your weight centered, use the left leg to help you push the weight OFF of that foot as you make a sharp turn of the right hip. FALL and SQUAT into your left leg. Using the ground, push UP off of that FOOT as your right hip moves TOWARD IT. Use this motion to get your left shoulder as FAR FROM THE BALL YOU CAN at impact. I didn't understand Brian's description at all at first. In fact, I thought it couldn't be right and I had to be misinterpreting the words. After trying to follow this verbal description for 45 minutes, I feel like I have a smoother, stronger motion with much more squat and a heck of a lot more "connection" to the ground. I can't believe the difference.

Is there a video of this, or additional description from Brian somewhere? I am extremely curious.

great description of the pivot....pushing off the left leg reminded me of the image of crushing a coke can ala the stack and tilt model...u can really feel the rotation propel the arms thru....

Yes, I have one of his vids explaining the squat and can make it available with Brian's permission. I looked for it on the forums some time ago, but I think it was removed...

While this a great definition a video would be awesome. I learn better by seeing. From reading I don't know how much or how little I should do each move. I tend to over do things.

Same here. And I'd gladly pay for a video explaining this from Brian.

One of my favourite things is Brian talking about what you would do if you were THROWING a golf club as far as you can. You would more or less do exactly as he wrote above. (but probably with more sway and also a step and plant with the left foot- much like swinging a baseball bat)

...

Not so much like a Brian video explanation but...

Here's some good video examples for you guys:

Mike Finney:

And...

Jamie Sadlowski:

I put Jamie in here because he has a real good pivot and all his moves are very "extreme" and easy to see. He is a 2-time RE/MAX Jr. World Long Drive champion and could probably make a case for having the most dynamic swing ever. (437 yard drive in LD finals at 17 years old)

Yeah, I think I am getting close to this. I get close (I think) by pretending there is a 1000 pound weight behind me connected to the club, I imagine planting hard off my front foot, pushing up from the ground, and trying to throw the weight/club down a hole in the ground about a foot in front of the ball. I think I had really lost feeling connected to the ground - this move re-establishes that. I haven't been able to hit balls doing this yet, though.

Btw, those manzella mac links never work for me. Is there some magic to making those work?

That's pretty good actually...throwing it down a hole.

I was gonna actually say..........for me- I would make a steeper shoulder turn in MY current golf swing than I would throwing a golf club into the air. But club throwing is a good example none-the-less.....

...esp. if you use a flatter shoulder turn than me.

But shoot- if you use your "throwing the club down a hole in the ground" example you can do it with your shoulder turn however you want/need to for best results.

The discussion with the Australian pro concluded with pivot demonstrations. How does your description relate to that discussion? BTW, would a golf summit about the pivot be productive?

Thanks for your response.
