Plane Line Question

Just Wondering

Is the Towel plane board the best way to practice plane line. I recently had a practice session where i hit between two wooden dowels placed very close to the ball, worked very nice. Is this better. Thanks

Sorry if i'm way off here but you're saying the two dowels is not a good idea because it would kind of just make me swing the clubhead and make a hackers flail at the ball, so the towel is the best drill for plane?

Why do I see pros do this all the time if it is a bad thing?

No one is saying it's a bad thing. Just not the best thing for plane work.

First you would have to know what he's using it for. If he's using it for alignment, fine. But that's different than using it for plane work. Because a plane board (towel or otherwise) is three dimensional, then it will provide more and better feedback than the double dowel system.

That said, if that double dowel system works for you, then use it, right?

Camilo's got a good swing eh?

I've always thought his lower body ("action") looks contrived though. (very noticeably restricted)
