Everybody rotates the LAFW. You have to. It's just bad to over-rotate it.

natep,
Not looking to argue, how much roation is bad, Do you have a vid, or a still pic. At address the lafw has no rotation, right? Now on the take away is some rotation ok, how much is acceptable ? or should there be none? when the club is parallel to ground is there rotation? And of course at the top is there rotation there? Sorry for all the ? but I really want to know, this golf swing is sure tricky deal, so many thing can go wrong.

Hp12c these are a lot of questions that bring to mind what your background is, like ..your handicap or typical scoring range, or low score you have, how long been playing seriously etc.

Hey dbl,

Lets see, I dont have an official handicap, lately my scores have been 86,84,102 and 82, your ? about playing seriously are you asking if I play in tournaments, no I dont, do I play for enjoyment, do most of the times, even when some shots dont do what I intend, I usually giggle and laugh when that happens. Your ? make me feel as if I not supposed to ask these ? is there some limit on what type of ? one can ask. Or do most of the current forum members already know these answer and therefore these ? should not be asked. If answers to my questions are already available on the forum please direct me to the location and I will avail myself to these answers.

Everybody is different, I cant give you an answer like "x degrees of rotation is good, x degrees of rotation is bad." If you had zero rotation your arms would likely be super steep and the shaft would be across the line at the top. If you had too much rotation your arms would likely be low and the club would be super flat at the top. Either way, you would have to make some sort of correction on the way down to get the club on a decent plane in order to hit the ball, and your results would likely suffer.

Here's a pic of someone with too much lafw rotation on backswing:

Here's an example of a more desirable swing plane:

HP, you can ask anything. Some stuff gets covered over and over and some doesn't. Sometimes there are nuggets you have to search out for, or that instructors pour out kind of slow like.

One way to search for things is not to use the site's search function, but just regular google and search for something like "top of backswing" site:brianmanzella.com

Just, to me, asking how much rotation is acceptable or saying the swing is a tricky thing, might be exposing you as a less experienced golfer, and so the answers maybe should be moved down a notch accordingly to assist you in incorporating new information. If I am wrong, I apologize.

hp12c,

If you're working on soft draw, check out this video of Payne Stewart. This is the about the best example I've seen of soft draw pattern. Watch his hands in the takeaway and you will see no popout.

Hey dbl,

When you say " the answers maybe should be moved down a notch accordingly to assit you in incorporatin new information" are you implying that my experience as golfer wether its a lot or a little equate to my intelligennce or my ability to comprehend the english language. All I asked was rotation if the lafw, or should I have asked how much pronation of the lafw is acceptable, that way you would think Im a more experienced golfer and therfore more intelligent, really, wow, an assumption like this just took this forum a down a notch, or I should say, the assumption degraded this forum to lower degree from where it was previously.

It might seem like that, but the rotation is there nonetheless.

If you try to make a golf swing with truly zero arm/forearm rotation you will end up with a very ungolf-like motion. Even if you grip the club as strong as you possibly could, so that your forearm was fully pronated at address, your upper arm will still rotate some at the shoulder socket.

Everyone rotates the LAFW, rotate it enough for your swing and do your best to not over rotate otherwise i welcome you to golf hell.
