Practicing by hitting on mats and into nets

You must have a much better camera than mine. The shaft disappears if I try to use a faster shutter than 1/500. At 1/500 the shaft is still blurred but I can at least get an idea of where it is. Of course outdoors I don't get any light reflected off of the walls or ceiling so that could have some effect.

I'm using a Panasonic PV-GS320...bought it pretty cheap on sale last week. It's nothing too fancy and is working out well.

What is on your approved list?

I like the Butch Harmon Laser Trainers. I don't think they are in roduction anymore so you have to find it somewhere, ebay is a good place. Comes with a nice matt that doubles as a putting matt. The mat also helps because you can put 1 laser on your putter and trace a straight line with your putter and practically never miss.

WASTE OF ABSOLUTE TIME!

UNLESS

1) You are praticing chip shots
2) You are practicing pitch shots

Also, your time would be better suited grabbing a pair of plane lasers and working on drawing a straight plane line.

I guess I am the most confused person in the forum. After my lesson with Brian it was obvious my plane was too flat and we spent a lot of time getting me more "up" in my back swing. When I hit balls into my net I video tape from DTL to see if my back swing is "up". Sometimes it feels like I am "up" but when I look at my video, my "feeling" does not match the reality. Are you saying I am wasting my time monitoring my swing changes?

Also, I am working very hard at carrying my impact hands forward. I know am not improving very much because I can clearly "see" that I am not doing what it "feels" like I am doing.

If I am wasting my time looking at what I am trying to do, please provide me with a better way. I am struggling and I need to feel like I am at least working in the right direction.

Jim...funny you mention plane lasers as that is exactly what I am using my net set-up for at the moment. 4-5 swings with the lasers, hit a ball, repeat, helps transfer the plane line feeling from the laser swing to the real thing.

from considerable experience...........

From hitting into a net and not seeing where the ball goes? No there is not, sorry.

Unless you are going to hit chip shots or pitch shots into that net FROM A DISTANCE so you can gauge direction you are doing more harm then good.

i completely disagree!

when i can during a lesson, take my pupil to an environment where he/she has no stress about what the ball is doing, i can change their swing faults almost instantly. if i have a net and can do this and get my pupil to connect with the ball, funnily enough we get improvement when we move back outside to the range proper.

im not saying this is the only way,the right way or even the way you should teach, but i do believe it is a good way!(too practice technique).

therefore there is ABSOLUTELY no need to say "YOU ARE DOING MORE HARM THAN GOOD".

When Brian speaks we ALL listen and learn, but please dont keep telling it like YOU KNOW EVERYTHING,you are definately on the right track and experience will help you in time.
please be more positive and receptive to comment.

Nets are great for Norhern states in winter months. Bad stretch of weather during the great months. Or any time you just need to work on your game, at your leisure. If you have a quality back drop net, the balls spin, if you know what your looking for, can tell much. Mirror and video are huge plus. Much can be gained by net practice, not to be fooled, if you have the room, it is worth the addition. 365 days are available to get good, when there is a net range in the mix.
