I can't get the ball to go at the target!!!! I am using Brian's suggested grip and I get slight fade(starts at the target and fades away. I am a hitter and a lefty. I use AH also. The problem is when I try to play the fade and aim a little right I hit it straight(very aggrevating). When I aim directly at the target I get the fade. I tried the twistaway and I get a straight pull or a pull that will draw just a little bit. Could the pull be from doing the twistaway and not hitting the inside back of the ball? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Probables:

1). Your "fade that starts straight and fades away" may be caused by you coming a little too inside to out in an attempt to steer the ball to the target.

2). Your "start right fade that doesn't" may be caused by an outside to in swing path as you try to steer the ball to the right.

3). "Pulls", an extention of 2)., are your straight away shots but with a little outside to in contact, possibly due to the ball being positioned a little too far forward.

If you are an habitual fader then you DO need to allow for this and simply adjust your target line accordingly. Swing down your adjusted target line and NOT at the target itself.

I play with a couple of guys who do these things regularly and this is what I see them doing - they are, curiously enough, both lefties.

Thanks for the input Burner!!! I will take notice next time out.

Just wondering, PLD, if you don't mind my curiosity.

Do you try to make a weight shift to your left foot in the backswing?

Does the shaft plane cross the line at the top/end of your backswing?

Spike, I do try to feel my weight on my left foot on the backswing. I am not sure about the club head crossing the line at the top I will try to take some video to see. Can you explain the reason for these two questions? Oh and I don't mind your curiosity. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Hi pld,

Burner's 3+ points are absolutely correct. My thinking is that the root of the problem is happening earlier in your motion.

I find that too much shift from back foot to front foot can cause the club to move out rather than down. Refer to Burner's +point about swinging down to your adjusted target line. The only problem there would be that you may start to really hook the ball as you may be too far over to your back foot. I don't know that you are without seeing your swing.

Crossing over the line combined with the above can just compound matters IMO. I'm not sure there is a "cure all" solution with just one idea, however, swinging down the adjusted target line would help a lot.
