Geoffs stuff

what is Geoff`s site
Geoff Mangum, puttingzone.com. The man who has hit over 4 million putts.

I've been to one of his clinics and it was d**n interesting. Regarding SBST I looked in detail at many of *his* putts. To me it's basically a swing with VH action when *he* putts, but he *advocates* a SBST swinging motion.

But that's not really what Geoff's about. He has a truckload of stuff on putting up his sleeve. On reading greens, tempo, mental stuff etc etc. The stroke itself is only a smaller part of the full package.

Without question some of the best info on putting I have ever seen at GMs site. The shoulder push backstroke start instantly improved my putting stroke. There are gobs of ideas to incubate.

Salem is a terrific test watched a friend playing in the Senior open several years ago. Charles River is hilly and fast with small greens. Lots of Donald Ross gems in this neck of the woods.

SBST not Me

Hi guys,

I don't really teach SBST or arcing path, as those who do teach this stuff don't know much about humans. I teach "putt the ball on the same line the putter face has been aimed along, however you get it done, as that's the only play that makes sense for the reading and aiming."

That being the case, the idea that the backstroke is important and needs to match the thru-stroke is a bit doctrinaire and even goofy, especially if people teaching that don't know 3D geometry and human bodies putting. And popular putting gurus just don't.

The stroke setup and movement builds soundly from the PURPOSE of the stroke, which starts with the AIMED putter face.

The simplest stroke that "rolls the ball wherever the putter face aims" is a setup of chest and shoulders parallel to the aim and a simple square-face stroke thru impact along this shoulder line. When the square face moves thru a bottom point behind the ball, slightly rising thru impact straight down the line, with the chest not rotating but staying stationary, the putter head will naturally stay headed straight rising above the aim line. Since the hands and arms connect to the putter without any joint changes in wrists or elbows, the "putter moves the lead shoulder vertically up from the ground, mirroring the putter sweetspot's vertical rising down the line."

This is NOT SBST. Praise The Lord!
