A couple of easy putting questions. What is the ideal ball position relative to the feet when putting? Also, what's the cure for "stubbing", I believe this is when the putter head its the turf before the ball. It's probably an incorrect or shifting low point. I think the cure is to have more weight on the left side?

Thanks,
p

I think you have a Sheriff, so I believe the "ideal" ball position for you will be whatever position helps you get the shaft to match that straight line when you go through impact. Also, it can be hard to describe ball position relative to the feet, since stance width, alignment, etc. will alter the ball position.

l2l,
You are correct, I do have a Sheriff :) It never occurred to me about getting the shaft to match that straight line when I go through impact. Actually, I think I know what you are saying, but not exactly. When I use the Sheriff this weekend, I'll see if I can figure it out.

Thank You,
p

pm,
It is a personal thing, found by trial amd error, For example, I line the ball up with my right instep...

Try standoing a little more erect or maybe putting the ball firther back in your stance...

l2l,
Remember when you wrote, "get the shaft to match that straight line when you go through impact"? Can you explain this a little more? Are you referring to the entire shaft or just a certain point on the shaft? Also, what "straight line" are you referring to?

Thanks,
p

The Sheriff should have a black vertical line on the front of the slide assembly. This helps monitor low point. In the Sheriff teaser, I believe Brian said that with the stroke the device produces, the face will be square when the shaft is vertical (matching the black line). So I think the best ball position is one that allows you to have the shaft matching that black line when the ball leaves the face.

When I got mine, I figured out a stroke that provided little resistance rather quickly. I grooved out the stroke for a while, then hit the putting green.

Push. Push. Push.

When I went back to the Sheriff, I made a stroke and paused when the shaft came back to that black line. Sure enough, I was overleaning the shaft, causing a change in low point and an open face.

So I moved the ball position more forward. Now when I made a stroke, the shaft was more in line with that black line when I hit the ball.

Back to the putting green, and what do you know...

BUCKET!
