Bobby Locke is my all time putting favorite. I wouldn't be surprised to hear he'd played all of 1948 with no 2 putts! And the greens of that era were like putting on peanut brittle. But I will say that as much as I've learned about hitting golf shots from the Doyle video and a Hebron book and Brian Manzella's expertise, I haven't gotten much about putting from them. Nothing they say (about putting) is insightful, or profound or anything I didn't already know. I even think some things Ben Doyle says on the video may be WRONG. (About putting now, not anything else--)
Specifically, I think there is one aspect of putting stroke which is not like a regular stroke. Thru impact I think it's important to keep the putter moving down the target line. At 90mph this would lead to a disasterous shot, but at 3-7mph it keeps the putt straight. It feels like a tiny tiny cut shot action thru impact. It keeps the hands and arms from their natural motion which is to follow the line around the torso and send the putt a little bit left.
