putting while watching the hole

I'm sure there's no "best" way, however, I was wondering if many have had success when watching the hole when putting?
I believe Brian mentioned he watches the hosel of the putter.
I think most stare a spot underneath the golfball until they hear the ball drop into the hole.

Thanks,
p

the theory behind why some like to watch the hole is understandable, but its not for everyone. personaly, I love the way Ben Crenshaw put it when asked how he putts so well... he said "im just trying to putt it down a 4 and a quarter inch piece of carpet" and that is what has helped me the most.

been leaving putts short in the past..ive been trying this in the putting green so far..and it seems to have a very significant improvement in distance control..have to use it more to really validate the method..Looks very promising though..=)

Every singe time I do it, it works great. It reminds me of playing basketball. I've never taken it to the course, though. Maybe I'll try it there tomorrow.

will it works quite well..My distance control has significantly improved..My putts all feel solid..should have done it sooner..=)

I've "spot putted" for over a decade. I pick out a single blade of grass along my intended line about 8"-to-10" in front of the ball, don't take my eyes off it, and then stroke the putt. The key is in the set up. I get my eyes over the ball and work back and forth between the ball and target (not the cup on breaking putts) while finding my blade of grass, or intermediate target.

I don't use this technique on longer putts where I'm just trying to get the distance correct. In order to maximize distance control, I watch the ball and concentrate on hitting the sweetspot precisely.

Watching the hole while putting

I've had success in the past practicing long puts so that I alternate shots
1. look at the hole, 2. eyes closed 3. normal. Surprisingly often I put very well when I look at the hole, but I've never tried it on the course.

Lately I've used (with good success when I get myself focused) Tiger's method of having a picture of the hole in my mind while I keep my eyes focused just behind the ball.
