I really like what you've done with his sweetspot management in the backswing...he even looks a bit Nicklausesque at points in the backswing. Much better looking swing!

It's interesting to note that despite quite different backswings if you stop the videos when the club is parallel to the ground for the last time before impact how similar the alignments are. Is one prior route easier to get to this spot than another?

Good Question...

It is NOT THAT IMPORTANT that if you drive from San Francisco to Santa Cruz that you always past through Half Moon Bay on Hwy 1—whether you took Hwy 1 straight down from San Francisco, or took I-280 and came over to the coast later.

What IS IMPORTANT is that when traveling down the cliffs portions of Hwy 1, you don't make any accidental RIGHT TURNS!

The takeaway looks better but at the top it looks pretty high - better than the before shot though. The left wrist looks better on the way down rather than being slightly bowed, but this is probably a result of getting the shaft less behind him and having the toe a little more down during takeaway

Was there a little grip change to help this?

It also looks like there was a discussion on back foot pressure. The after picture looks like it is on the ground deliberately.

I would have said that the steeper upswing would cause for more roll after impact but you can see the clubface come out less closed than the before shot.

Better hand action, better feet, better move.

Love the changes you made!

Brian how did his ballfight change with the two different swings. Did his misses get better and/or did he gain better control of the d plane? And why?

The swing change gave me a ballflight that is considerably higher, and I can now intentionally move the ball from right to left. For example, the "after" swing produced a high, straightish shot that fell ever so gently to the left.

I went to the range yesterday and would say that the majority of the shots I hit were high fades. Some started on line and others started a smidge to the right. I have some work to do as far as becoming comfortable with the new move and being able to reliably draw the ball, but I'm hitting the ball WAY better than I was before. Prior to my lesson my predominant miss was a thin, weak push cut that invariably came up short. I can still hit that shot, but I find my new miss to be a high fade that is struck solidly, a little right, but more or less pin high. I'll take it.

We didn't talk about D-plane specifically, however, Brian did get me to stop aiming so far left, which I assume predisposed me to hitting a cut. I think once I can execute the new swing a little less deliberately I'll be able to start thinking about the D-plane and how I can use it to make shots.

I can't help you with the "Why" part of your question, I think Brian will have to chime in on that.

So, if I'm interpreting this correctly, you mean that there were elements of his "before" swing which increased the risk of his ending in the Pacific and the new model would see him sipping a tequila in Santa Cruz more often and with less effort?
