People don't talk about him that much anymore but Elk still looks flawless to me..
I walked round with him as a spotter for ABC TV at the Open at St Georges. I think it was the first day and he was playing with Montgomerie and Faxon it was blowing a gale and he ended up carding an 86. Tee to green he outplayed them both. Montgomerie bailed out with a hurt wrist on the 8th but was on for a big score. Faxon shot 2 or 3 over which was fantastic in those conditions. Elkingtons swing was great but his short game and putting was suspect. If Faxon had taken Elkington's short game shots and putted for him "They" would have shot under par. People don't talk about him because his short game let him down but swing wise he looked great. I did not get a chance to talk to him but he had a Scottish friend following him that I did talk to. I asked him who his coach was and he said some old guy in California., he is really good.

Hue, do you mean that Faxon's putting wasnt good? I had always heard he putted great.

Faxons putting and short game was fantastic. Good shots were not holding the greens as they were so hard and the wind shifted the ball over the slopes leaving the ball in up and down situations. Faxon got up and down all the time and made key putts Elkington did not and that was the difference in scores.

Hue, I think the "old guy in California" is Ben Doyle. I know Elkington did some work with him and when Ben sent me his tape there were pictures of Elkington taking a lesson with Ben included with the tape.

Redgoat and Brian: Do you have any film or footage of Elkington's swing that you could post? Thanks.

Nice pictures. Only proves my pet peeve about swing sequence picture selection. Look at the beautifully selected frames in the Elk "roll." All to often editors pick impact straight to hands high over the shoulder. Or they go from top of swing to impact. Much of the “secrets” I feel are found in those two mentioned areas. Its one thing to have a nice poster, another to have a sequence that teaches.

I have battled this many times with editors, I use a high speed Hulcher camera in my work.

Thanks Brady : Great pics. How long ago were these pics taken? Were these taken before or after elkington started working with Ben Doyle? Thanks.

Brady, with the way Vijay has been striking the ball lately, would you be so kind as to post some pics or video of his swing?

You're welcome. Happy to share the pictures if I have them.

6bee1dee,

I agree completely about the camera angles and choice of frames. Thank you for noticing.

Hue,

I am unsure with respect to the down the line and face on shots. However, I am sure the full roll and up target shots are post Ben.

I will post Vijay tonight.

Frame #7 with that right hand bending off the grip, gets me everytime I see it.

Funny to see should an accomplished player still working on spin angle with a club on his head. [^]

Looks like Singh does that with his right hand to insure against "running out of right arm", guaranteeing that the right arm doesn't act like a "chain", which would decelerate the left wrist, causing it to bend. I saw this "chain" idea in one of Yoda's posts on the Chuck Evans TGM forum.

The right hand is coming off the club, and Singh's holding on with his left hand to keep the face from turning over. He does everything he can to eliminate the left side of the golf course. The water bottle makes him swing left after impact.
