Results of gripping to much in fingers?

For a right handed golfer, what would the results be of taking the grip with the club to much in the fingers? Is it even possible to get the club to far in the fingers with the left hand? How would you fix someone that is comfortable playing this way?

I am curious about this myself.. when I grip it more in the palm I seem to be more accurate, but also considerably shorter.

I've gripped it in the fingers of my left hand for so long that I can't go back to a "normal" left hand grip. I'm using the NSA pattern right now and will sometimes hit some big nasty hooks. I don't feel like I'm flipping it so I wonder if my grip has something to do with it.

Annnnnnd why is it a problem? I've played like this for several years now so how do I fix it? The club is pretty close to 90* to my left arm before I set the club down on the ground.
