Right middle finger split open

I'm learning to control the clubface better and better and hitting the ball pretty well these days. As a side effect, I've developed a pretty nasty cut on left side (if looking at it from a palm up position) of my middle finger on my right hand. This cut is on the left side of the finger tip. I keep that finger tip on the grip and I can feel pulling on the area when I hit the ball. It is almost like my hand keeps going, but my fingertip stops a bit during impact.

Questions: Should the middle two fingertips of the right hand be on the grip. If so, should they be on the top of the shaft or on the part of the shaft facing the target at address? Also, does anyone play smaller than standard grip sizes? I wear a cadet ML glove and sometimes I feel like my hands just aren't getting around the grip like they should.

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Ouch!

When I read this, my first thought was this. What does Bonesy
mean by fingertip? To me the tip is the tip, as in end of finger bone.
I have difficulty picturing how you would grip like that, and therefore
think he means the pad under the finger from tip to first joint.

So if it's the pad on the grip, then that sounds very normal.

"Does anyone use undersized grips?" Absolutely. The old rule
of thumb is that the tips of your top hand should just touch the
pad under the heel of that hand.

Here is something I have noticed. Cut a grip off a OEM club. There
is a mouth size stamped on the grip. I have seen 0.580 grips installed
on 0.600 shafts intended to be regular sized. In essence, this combo
is already 0.02 oversized. This is easy to measure if you have
a dial indicator, or grip size tool. Standard size is 0.930 measured 2 inches
down from the top of the grip.

What is strange is that your problem is on the right hand. Maltby, The Golf Works,
has for 30 years now, recommended building up the grip under the right hand for a
better fit. That would argue against your grips being too big for your right hand.

But the easy way is simply a visit to Custom Golf shop. Have them fit you
to the proper sized grip.

I have the same cut on my right hand middle finger, looking at my palm on the left side right next to my fingernail. Seems, for me, to happen when the weather is cooler and the air is dryer. My hands get dry and tend to crack more and that middle finger seems like it just can't take pressure of the golf swing. Starts off as a small split then gets worse the more I swing, usually worse on the range due to more full swings. Stings like a bitch!

my miss lately is a push, a heel shot, or high pull. All caused by BPS (I think) and various reactionary hands/clubface positions. The more I think about it, I'm betting that underplane contact and the bullsh.t hand manipulations that a required by it are causing it.

Shot -- my hands are dry too. Dry hands + stress at impact = rip!
