I spent the better part of the afternoon today hitting balls and practicing with Mediate.

A few quotes (paraphrasing some of course)

"The club should be light"

"No one any good moves the club forward thru impact" (I thought that was interesting)

"I never pull. I feel the clubhead go right at it from the top"

"The club should travel wide. Width is good"

"At the top, you should be able to pick your left foot off the ground, not your right foot."

"If you pull, how can your left elbow move into your body?"

"Never feel any weight ever go into either one of your heels."

Alot sounded like it was straight from the release thread!

"I never pull. I feel the clubhead go right at it from the top"
nugget for the underplaners out there me included!

I think this one is very important although I don't fully understand what he means

"The club should be light"

Literally?

"If you pull, how can your left elbow move into your body?"

What's this about the left elbow into the body?

The comment on the club beng light is interesting. If he means to the effect 'when you swng it well, the club feels light' I tend to agree. I remember Moe Norman saying the best round he ever had every club in his bag felt very light, despite having very heavy clubs.

I remember reading this in a Nick Faldo book

and Kevin Mentioned this "the left arm being in the way" or "needs to fold in and out of the way" so the right arm/shoulder can do it's thing.

Wow, great info. Thank you Kevin for sharing.

When you don't get on your right side in the BS, doesn't it make it almost impossible not to pull in the DS?

"Never feel any weight ever go into either one of your heels."

Not even the left heel at impact / follow-through? If not, then should the weight be on the left toes?

He said when you pull on it, it becomes heavy. the left elbow is a Hogan/Ballard thing....with a pinch of Manzella

I put it up only because I thought it may be interesting to hear what one of the Tour's most consistent ballstrikers had to say. He went into alot more but those were the main points. I proceeded to let him give me a look and then I watched him pick 3 irons off this one bare spot without ever hitting one thin.

If he could putt better he wouldve had double the victories

Enviable experience, Kevin. I've never been able to pick a pro's brain but I feel that just by watching one hit balls I gain a lot of valuable insight. Some things about the swing are best communicated visually, I think.

And Rocco's the man. We Italians need positive examples like him to offset the damage incurred by Jersey Shore.

Great stuff, Kevin. Love to hear insights from players of his ilk.

I watched him hit balls in Reno, at the RTO and it was not particularly pretty. I'm sure he just had a poor session, but he was standing beside Billy Horschel and Kevin Kisner (two player he club "play" into the dirt) and if it were a range contest, Rocco would have finished third by a long shot. Just another reason that ball striking, while sexy, is only a part of the equation.

Isn't it fair to say that most of his tenants work well for players who can already "stress the shaft?"

I would say without question that would be the case. i will say that when he's on he controls distance and hits hit solidly as well as anyone. prob why he likes the US Open so much.

It would have been fun to be a fly on the wall for those conversations. It might also be interesting to see Rocco's numbers on Trackman.
