Sand Bunker feet setup-alignment or pressure

A lot of player, love to really drill their feet in the sand at address. Do they know why they are doing it?

Are they trying to change their alingment, in order to get their setup lower?

or

They are trying to make sure that they are stand on a firm ground (stengthen the sand) in order not to lose any pressure between their feet and the sand?

Trying to make sure they are standing firmly (as well as testing the consistency of the sand) I reckon.

They do it largely because they have been pre-programmed to do so and have little (I suspect) thought of the consequences of getting their feet below the level on which the ball rests.
